Joel_W
Pascal, The inside canopy frame once painted and weathered looks fantastic. Just hope for all that effort it, one will be able to view it without having to turn the model over. The prop painting process was a mini tutorial for me. Your technique will lengthy, makes for a much better presentation even in 1/48 scale. Just one question. why only a hint of yellow for the back side of the blades? Every single prop I've ever seen has it on both sides. Joel
pg265
Hi everybody, Small progress. Some work done on the exhausts: With pastels: "Test fit": Plastic assembled on the resin P&W: "Sewing" (Passepoil in French...) done on the headrest: Small weathering with oils and Humbrol 144. pg265
Joel, The aft of the propeller blades is often more worn than the forward area. This is a picture I took few days ago on friend of mine plane (Lockheed Electra  ) This is the back side of the Hamilton Blade of the P&W R-985: Hope it helps ;) Pascal Edited October 3, 2014 by pg265
Joel_W
Pascal, Thanks for taking the time to post that picture. Now it makes sense. Joel
Joel_W
Pascal, The exhaust headers really look quite realistic with the dry brushing of the chalk to simulate the discoloration caused by the heat of the exhaust gases. Joel

Joel_W
Pascal, Thank you for such a precise and accurate comparison of paints. There certainly is a difference in the two colors. Your weathering technique really is quite unique, but does yield excellent results. Joel

crackerjazz
Incredible work, Pascal. As close as you'll get to taking a shrinking ray to the real plane. Looking forward to the weathering, too.
Joel_W
Pascal, I'm really learning quite a lot about how your masking technique works. Your decision not to mask the blue circle for the stars to eliminate a raised edge, seems so logical, yet no one does it that way. The base colors you applied for your chipping should produce a extremely realistic effect, rather then just the usual aluminum. And an excellent mix of color for the Blue/Gray. Looks perfect on my monitor. Looking forward to your next update. Joel Edited October 20, 2014 by Joel_W
pg265
Hi, Thank you very much Mates. Started to work on the Blue Grey. First step with lightened Blue sprayed with 0.2 nozzle. Light color is a mix of Blue Grey and Light Gull Grey from Aeromaster. Surface is rubbed with a soft cloth for a smooth paint surface and to remove the Maskol Then oils Raw Umber W&N on the panel lines. Then Sépia (Rembrandt), Titanium White, blue... between fuselage frames , worked with lighter fluid. Same on stars Pascal
pg265
Me again White tape will soon be put over the gun muzzles I've also tried to represent the discoloration due to Avgas leaks on the fuselage sides And few leaks and fluid traces Paint of the canopy is done Overviews of the progress Voilà . zaxos345
Awesome Pascal!!! John
Joel_W
Pascal, Simply a tremendous paint job. The paint chipping while more then I personally would have done, looks both realistic, and in areas that would have seen that type of wear and tear. The overall effect of your paint application is a nearly perfect weathered and worn aircraft, that was exposed to the heat, humidity, and salt air conditions of the Pacific.
