GMK
As seen here: http://media.militaryphotos.net/photos/5th-SFGA/abl Is this a MELB?
Dave Williams
Doesn't look like any US special Ops Little Bird that I've ever seen. Aside from the paint scheme, there are no antennas or any of the other bumps and lumps that US AH-6s are fitted with. Take off the rocket pods, and it looks like any other civie MD530. Holeshot
Private Military Contractor's bird maybe??? (Like Halliburton or the like?) Just guessing, Curtis
Mandrake
It would appear to be armed with rocket pods..............discuss :D Certainly unusual whatever the truth is!
jrallman
hey, you never know what you can pick up at a military surplus store! might be fun to strap those on and go freak out traffic choppers :D
Dave Williams
My first thought was also that it was a security contractor's bird, but I'd be surprised that the US Military would let private companies fly helos armed with rocket pods in a military operating area. OTOH, maybe it is Haliburton and they probably can get away with anything in Iraq.
SukhoiPilot
It says right in the pic. 5th SFGA: Little Bird escorting an MI-8 to pick up a captured Iraqi General. so 5th Special Forces Group Airborne explains it all.
GMK
Thanks Guys, The interesting thing (to me at least) was the date - during major combat operations, and operating in conjunction with the 5th Special Forces Group. To me that would tend to rule out private contractors(?). Thoughts? And how do I model this in 1/35?
VFA-103guy
It's highly unlikely for civillian contractors to work in conjunction with SF guys, especially when picking up a high priority target like what was mentioned in the caption. Brian Marbrey (former grunt)
Just call me Ray
Maybe the SF guys are "borrowing" an MD530 meant for the Iraqi Air Force?
