jiawei_91
Hello guys,Here's a question. What turp should I use to clean off extra oil paint for washes? I'm trying to save money, so i'm thinking whether hardware turp(from the hardware store)will work. What do you guys think? Thanks in advance, Lim :P
Julien (UK)
I just use plain old tupentine subsitute, about the cheapest there is, works for me. Julien
Holeshot
I use artist's "turpenoid" turpentine substitute. I had a baaaad experience with real turp (ate into the finish, literally took a month to dry, etc ) I won't use it again. Plus the turpenoid is virtually odorless. Good luck, Curtis
Randy Wise
Odorless turpentine works best for me. It's cheap and the best part is it doesn't make me sick afterwards. Randy

Shinigami
I use odor-less turp as well. Its fairly cheap and relatively health friendly compared to your other options.

Oliver
I've heard that real turpentine dissolves the oil paint better (sometimes the particles are quite big and tend to float at the surface after a while), but unfortunately I cannot confirm this. I just use the turpentine substitude - the one I use for thinning enamels. HTH ;) Oliver
volzj
Low Odor mineral spirits works just fine for me, and is friendly to be around.
