Chris Hannover - Germany
Thanks Daniel. The bird should be done at the end of the year (at least i hope...) Chris
Chris Hannover - Germany
We have an update finally... I managed to glue on the wings and set the bird in primer. Here are some pics. Had some trouble with the wing root... There were some nasty gaps wich had to be filled. The trick was, to sand all smooth carefully, as i didn´t want to loose the rivet details. Well, i did it not very successfully... Let me know what you thik. Merry X-mas, Chris
David Walker
That looks great. I don't believe I've seen this particular Trumpeter kit build so I'll watch your build with interest.
Chris Hannover - Germany
Thanks David, ok it´s no Luftwaffe bird, but it´s a cool subject too :D Cheers, Chris
Chris Hannover - Germany
The bird is painted... The first two pics shows the basic colors, the following are with some weathering. now with weathering The blue color is Gunze H 42 (blue Grey) and the belly color is Tamiya XF 66 (Light Grey) That´s all for now. Please let me know what you think. Chris
FrankC
Chris, the SBD is looking really nice! Look like you are at the decal phase. I love the way you are weathering this one, looks to be another stunner. I look forward to seeing it finished Regards, --Frank
Chris Hannover - Germany
Thanks Franck! Not yet decal phase. I´m still waiting for some masks, then i can paint the national insignias by airbrush too. I don´t want to loose the rivet detail by a decal. Cheers, Chris
Liberator24
Still a bang up job! Love watching you work Chris! Looks great! -Jim
Nev
Gorgeous! Outstanding work so far. I got the SBD-1 boxing for Christmas and I can't wait to start it after this inspiration! (saving it for the USMC GB though :P )
Mattcooke
Great work there Chris.I love your weathering. How did you achieve that? Daniel

Bill
Beautiful SBD Chris. Your finishing skills are really good. :D
Chris Hannover - Germany
Thanks a lot Gentlemen! :( The weathering: First i paint the model in the basic colors like you can see in the first 2 pics. Then i take the basic color and add some black to it, but careful, not too much!! With the new mixture i go over the panel lines, rivet lines as well as some stripes in the air flow direction over the wings. If there are some areas with shadows, like under the opened gun doors on the spine behind the cockpit, i spray there too the darkened color. That are the lowlights. Now the highlights: I usually take a very light grey or just white for it. I´m not sure if it works with enamel paints too, as i´m using Acrylics only. I spray several thin layers over the panel centers as well as stripes in the air flow directions over the wings. From the top i spray some thin layers white too, to create the sunbleached effect. And that´s all. Of course you can go over the panel lines again with a highly thined oily brown, but i don´t do it. The panel lines and rivets will recieve an oilwash later. After wiping it off, you have a similar effect. Hope that helps. If there are more questions, feel free to ask. Cheers, Chris

Chris Hannover - Germany
Thanks much Gents´! :) Ron, the kit is really nice. A lot better then all other Trumpeter kits i had. The overall fit is good, with exception of the upper wing parts. Be careful when it comes to add them to the fuselage. I would recomment to glue on the lower wingpart first, then the upper ones, otherwise you´ll have a bad gap between wing and fuse. Happy New Year, Chris
Chris Hannover - Germany
Well, here is my little New Years Update. The US Signs were painted by airbrush, with the help of mask. The masks were produced by my good modelling mate Hans. Special Thanks for that Hans! The bird is already covered with FUTURE and ready to recieve the decals now. Happy New Year, Chris

Chris Hannover - Germany
Some more progress pics. At the moment i´m working on the engine and as some paints and washes have to dry, i thought you would like to see how the rest of the bird is comming along. Here are the pics Some of the position lights have been replaced by these real lamps. The are 1,3mm in dia. You can get them in every electronic store. If you are from Germany, you maybe know a store called "Conrad", this is the store i got them from. I´mnot sure if the tips were yellow or looked like this, but i like it Thats all for the moment. Please let me know what you think. Cheers, Chris

ron
Wow, like I said, I am a big fan of your builds and this shows why I don't think the props were painted like that, it's more of a Cessna 185 type of a tip but I'll agree with you, it does look good
