gunpowder
Finally finished this commission build. Its taken a while , but its been very interesting. I have learned alot about the shuttle on the way. This kit itself is the Monogram full stack kit. Its not an easy build as theres lots of gaps , warps and general bad fit. With a bit of patience i managed to get it all together without much filler. On the whole i enjoyed it and it will be one of the few commission builds that i will actually be sad to see go. By the way , excuse the white glue holding the glass on. It will dry clear. Next on the Build list is the Revell 1/72 Shuttle sitting on the back of the 1/72 747!

Trojan Thunder
Nice! ;) What sort of refs did you use for the fuel tank colours. I suppose you need to pick a particular mission and go from there?
gunpowder
I used Google for all of the refs. There are some great photos out there. I kinda mixed and matched from different photos so its not 100% accurate to 1 mission or shuttle.
Trojan Thunder
Thanks, It looks great! Makes my want to pull out my 1/144 stack and have a shot at it.
CF104
Looks great :D Only one observation for any future Space Shuttle builds. The thick black band at the top of the SRB's is only on the left SRB and not on both. This aids in visual orientation and identification during launch and recovery of the SRB/Space Shuttle first stage. Cheers, John

I will tell the new owner and see if he wants me to change it. Thanks for pointing it out.

Jay Chladek
As somebody else who has also built one of these monsters, congratulations. You did an excellent job with it and your client should be very happy with the result. In my own case, I also miss not having my shuttle model on display in my house. BTW, what did you use to glue the orbiter to the ET? Reason I ask is I found that it pretty well requires some high strength epoxy for longevity. Of course, your model does have the third support going up the engine bell while mine only has two supports going up the SRBs, so one probably doesn't need to go as heavy duty with the stock display stand. And yes Trojan, you pretty much do need to pick a mission and work from there. If anything, pick maybe one photo of one mission and match to that as pictures of the tank will show different shades from rollout to launch day as the ET gets a nice tan due to UV light exposure. Sometimes even a tan line can be seen where the RSS sits after RSS rollback about 24 hours prior to launch. Edited May 19, 2009 by Jay Chladek
