Tamiya P-51D OOB

Recommended Posts

Just finished building this one for the Mustang Group Build on HyperScale. I'm calling it done, despite falling short in a few areas. For starters, I lost the pitot tube to the carpet monster. I also decided against any final clear coat, as my testing showed that nothing I had on hand was going to work well. Besides, I'm really happy with the NMF on this one, and I didn't want to ruin it. I decided that the patchy finish was preferable to that.

Despite having a few rough edges, I like the way it turned out, and as always, have learned a few things along the way.

Thanks for looking.

Great work....

May I ask what blue you used for the nose forward area?

Thanks in Advance

I used an old bottle of AeroMaster RLM 24, from their defunct Warbird Acrylics line. I chose this because it was all I had on hand, and figured it was a 'close enough' match for me. I'm sure there are better choices out there, as the consensus of feedback I've had so far suggests it's a little too dark, but I wouldn't have known what else to go for anyway.

Very nice build. After watching Dogfights profile the P-51 I got the bug to build one in 08! I have the 1/32 Has in my stash just calling out my name. Maybe there will be Mustang group build in the future.
