nicholassagan
I'd like to pick up a set of resin nozzles to replace the ones in the Italeri 1/72 Su-34 kit. I know the diameter of the kit nozzles is 17mm (at mounting diameter). Can anyone do me a solid and measure any Aires, QB, etc replacement nozzles? I'm most specifically looking to get a set of super vector ones if they exist...
ChippyWho
Hi Sir; sorry if I seem to be asleep half the time, but did you score the North Star cans for this kitty? I'm pondering a cheaply-offered Revell boxing, and aside from the pretty mandatory NeOmega 'pit and some nicer decals, I could use any pointers to a better life! Cheers, CW
Flankerman
The Aires set that I have are 15.5/16mm - I think they were designed for the Airfix Flankers. There may be other Aires sets specific to the Su-34 - I dunno. You could use the spare set of nozzles in the Trumpeter J-11B kit - it has nozzles for an Al-31 plus ones for the WS-10 fitted to the J-11B. Ken

Ken Thanks Ken, still 'formulating my strategy' (i.e. shopping list) just now, but this oddly sinister looking aircraft is getting deeper under my skin all the time. What started as a 'can't turn it down for that money' has, as is often the way, become an obsession! Especially -2011december-voronezh.jpg"]this scheme...BAAAAD! Sauragnmon
I have three in my stash, one in partial construction... I have to say, that scheme has just made its way into the planning stages for one of my three airframes. I haven't looked for cans for the Su-34, and to be honest, I have a couple of other Flanker airframes in my stash, and the 34 cans are quite nice beside, oh, the Zvezda Su-30KN's offerings, which are absolutely horrid. Probably the weakest part of the engine section on the 34 is the rather blank end of the intakes. Unless you go and drop the FOD covers, it's rather empty in the intakes. Back to the questions at hand... Eduard does a set of PE for the Su-34 directly, that looks like it includes parts to upgrade the engines as stand with the kit. Aires does a pair of unmarked "Su-27B Exhaust" that could potentially fit the Su-34, but I don't know as they don't mark a company on them.
Sauragnmon
Correction, I just looked on Aires' site, you want set 7207, they are earmarked for Italeri on Aires' site.
Flankerman
My 'eggplant' Su-34.... As well as the new upper wing fences, latest photos show that, when fitted with wingtip ECM pods, there are small 'fillets' fitted between the wing leading edge and the pods - you can just make them out in this photo. Berkut
Ken, as i pointed out in other forum, it is not "latest", as those fillets have been there since atleast 2010. Possibly always.
Flankerman
Ken, as i pointed out in other forum, it is not "latest", as those fillets have been there since atleast 2010. Possibly always. OK.... 'recently spotted' - or, 'only just discovered' - or 'just come to my attention'. Will one of those do ???? Ken
ChippyWho
My 'eggplant' Su-34.... Mmmmm...parmigiano...aaaaaaarrrgggglll! Lovely work, as always, Sir! Many, many thanks for all the input, gents. I promise it won't be wasted; so far my £5 Revell superdeal has spread out in all directions and now involves springing for NeOmega, Olimp and Eduard nonsense at the very least. God, I LOVE this hobby!
Berkut
OK.... 'recently spotted' - or, 'only just discovered' - or 'just come to my attention'. Will one of those do ???? Ken Well, i wrote that so there wouldn't be confusion that those are either new, or only seen on new frames recently delivered.
Sauragnmon
Chippy, you missed my second post - I had seen the two Aires sets, and 7207's set up and earmarked for the Italeri kit, though it's a "Su-27B Exhaust" so it Might fit with the rest of their stuff, but who knows. I did see that, Sir -and thanks again! But (and here I'm still on the Fullback learning curve) are the AL-31F Flanker cans the same as the AL-31FM type? North Star appear to offer two different (albeit visually similar) sets for the two aircraft, hence my original query: I know nicholassagan was looking into the North Star ones, and would be keen to hear his (or any) opinions on them. Flankerman
The nozzle diameter should be the same on all Flankers - it's just the various models that vary so much - from 16mm to the Hasegawa Su-27's whopping 18mm..... The Trumpeter 1/72 Flankers are spot on at 17mm - as are Italeri's Su-34 nozzles Ken
mrvark
I just did a test fit of Aires 7281 (for Trumpeter Su-27) to the Su-34 kit. The only issue I see is that the inside of the kit's nozzle opening may need to be ground out a little so that the Aires afterburner tube will fit inside. Otherwise, it fits fine. Sauragnmon
I've got the Zvezda SU-30KN and I'm definitely looking to replace the nozzles... anybody got more of an edge on those ones? They are absolutely horrible on detail, to the point my eyes hurt, so identifying which ones will work with it would be nice.
Sebastijan
I've just measured Aires cans for Su-33 and they're 17mm in diameter, if this helps anyone
