Doctor Heli trio from Hasegawa (RoG)

Recommended Posts

Now this is just too cool! Hot on the heels of their announced 1/32nd scale Doctor Heli BK-117, there is news of a 3-ship 1/72nd scale Doctor Heli set!!

Years ago, with the help of Japanese co-workers I managed to cobble up the vanilla-version decals of a DocHeli A-109K2.

Too bad Hasegawa & Revell didn't see fit to add the final full-color version of the A-109K to the set.... :-(

Interesting, usually it is ROG using Hasegawa plastic.

I am probably wrong but is this first time of Hasegawa using ROG plastic, at least for helos anyway?

the times with Hasegawa kits in RoG boxes are over now. This direction of cooperation has finished now.

There were releases of the RoG BK-117 in 1:32 scale as Doctor Heli and Shizuoke Preferecture Chopper in the recent past.

The fact that Hasegawa ist the distributor for RoG products in Japan has also be taken into consideration.

How do these rate compared to the Heller and ROG EC 145 kits? I've worked on a couple heller kits. I like them. (Haven't done their ADAC version. Does it have all the air ambulance stuff or is it the same as the other 3 kits?) Haven't worked with the revell kits, but from the reviews I know the doors are molded shut. :(

I think if you prefer Heller or RoG is a matter of personal taste.

RoG has the doors shut, yes. But the overall detail is more crisp and things like seats and EMS interior is much more correctly represented. Another disadvantage of Revell is that the skid crosstubes are moulded on the fuselage belly. That makes the model more difficult and fragile to handle while filling and sanding.

The Heller kit has the single doors for optional positioning and a skid arrangement that is more like a sledge - simply attach the whole thing under the fuselage. But what strikes most is that the Heller kit is oversized. I haven't laid them over blueprints but the assumption is there because the Revell engine housing fits neatly on top of the Matchbox/RoG-BK-117 whereas the Heller doghouse is too big.

ooooh.... This could make life interesting. Just ordered a Revell 145 VIP to get the POLIZEI decals (Think the older green/white looks better) to use on a Heller kit. Am planning an EMS ship also. Anybody make "life flight" decals besides Penninhaus? They only have two US ones I know of .... one out of Texas, another out of Louisiana. If anyone has the ear of one of the makers, two suggestions. #1 Boston Medflight .... real sharp blue/silver scheme. #2 D Hart out of Boston and Manchester NH. White with dark green pine tree line markings.

Just curious, what is the website for Penninhaus? I'm interested to know what decals they make for the "Life Flight" out of Louisiana. I fly ems on contract for Acadian Ambulance in Baton Rogue (AirMed 3) so I was wondering if those markings were offered by them. Anybody know where I can see the decal sheet?

Thanks,

Sorry, Steve. Mia culpa! It's PeDDinghaus. Site is peddinghaus-decals.de They have a set for Arcadian's BO-105 NS11DD. I've seen it on Ebay for about $10. Other US one they have is a Vanderbilt Uni ship.

Those decals for Acadian's Bo105 N911DD call sign AirMed 1 based at Lafayette Airport (Lafayette, LA). Sadly this aircraft is no longer in Acadian service and was replaced by an EC135P2+ a few years ago. I have flown that aircraft a few times over the years.

Thanks for the heads up on these, now I have to find me a set.

Dragon hobbys , on EBAY carries them. (No relations to the Dragon that makes the kits ... I don't think. ) Another EDAY dealer (who I've dealt with ) is Scotts Hobbys (?), ebay contact is rebelalpha. Not sure if he has any left. Just save one for me. I might try adapting them to an EC 145. Looking to add an EMS one to the collection. Want to do something other than ADAC or Rega bird. (Like I said, if someone made a set for Boston Med or D Hart I'd be a little piggy in mud!!!) Might not be totally accurate but would look neat.

Hey Steve, set the way-back machine to 2008..... I was passing through Lafayette, returning from a work assignment in Baton Rouge, and stopped by the airport to have a peek at the local machinery.

LA hospitality is NOT to be questioned, I was allowed out on the apron to take photos, and measure the hi skids on a Bo-105 for a model that I still haven't built. (Gasp!)

The State Police guys let me shoot their 430, only the PHI guys were uncool, so their stuff I shot through the fence. (Nanner :taunt:/> nanner!!)

See any old friends?? LOL

Yep, I do. N911RJ has been sold to a police force in Argentina and N624MB better known as "The Duck" is also out of the inventory. Since you were working in Baton Rouge, you should have made your way do to our heliport & I would have given you the grand tour of our base. Back then we had our Acadian Bo105 N911HD & shared hanger space with a MD600N, the same one that was in the 2006 James Bond pic "Casino Royale". by the way, the 2 pictured Bo 105s are not on high skid gear. I have flown a spare Bo 105 on high skid gear back when PHI had the Acadian contract. That was an experience getting into & out of with out falling sometimes. The Bell 206 L-4 (?) & the S-76s are after my time with PHI...new paint scheme that is. I have a pilot who works here with me that retired from the LA state police & flew the Bell 430.

As an added bonus, among the surplus parts in the "Polizei" boxing are the correct high skids for the EC135 (on a sprue marked "EC-135 Accessoires", natch) not included in RoG's 1/72nd EC135 "Österreichische Polizei /Bundespolizei "and EC635 kits, which should have the high skids..!

Cheers,

Andre
