Hello to all, I've read lots of posts regarding the RV Mig-21, and saw so very nice assemblies on the net, that were lovely, so I invested in 3 of those for Christmass : One PFM in Vietnam special box, one regular SMT and the low-cost Bis. Well, I'm not a MIG-21 specialist, but I was more than cautious while reviewing those, and comparing with the other boxe in stock ( 5 Fujimis, 1 Zvesda Bis, 2 Kps, lots of PE stes and corrections from Aires)as well in some few books ( 4+, Verlinden and net sourcing) and finaly what bother me most is the far too wide windscreen and canopy ?! I haven't r

Sorry to all, I didn't realize that FS17875 was white, while I was mentionning pale grey...... I do agree with Scotthldr so, it is not white, moreover if you compare to the "navy" Iraki F1 that is really "fridge" white color, but these paint were designed for sea level operation, same as Super Etendard. So here come an idea, may be the brand new Jordanian F1 were delivered in matt white, and then as we're all looking pretty used aircrafts due to their age, turned out to a pale grey. So for a model, painting the belly in matt white, then apply a gentle oil way of grey shoud create the good

Hi, Got the very nice Albatros decal sheet decated to the Mirage F1, and is fairly accurate and mentionning grey FS17875 for the underside. I' glance to a 2004 issue of Air Fan showing vely nice pictueres of worned F1, as well as a recent Aircraft Monthly, and this very pale grey is fitting to my eyes at least.

Hi Jari, You're right, it is a bad pics observe without a minute of brain use ! And thanks for the comment, it is very instructive as I'm not in the aviation sphere. Rob, I remind in one of my magazines piles that this senquence was reported (old AIR FAN ?), by chance the assembly will be photographed ? If you're not in a hurry, I'll look for it in the following weeks. Fanchig

Evening Rob, Let's back to the Acad vs Heller, mentionning here that I'm not THE SEM specialist, and here is just my modest contribution ! - True the kink is very small on Heller, Acad is better. - As I was wondering how to explain the intake shape, here is finally the best way to describe what is really bothering me on the Acad, the intake is too low on the nose side, should be basically on the canopy level, amplified by the too flat canopy, nose downward angle missing and may be a bit short nose. That is the key point that make me prefer the Heller, as the rest of the Acad is great in o

We're on the same page AVO, as also it is very trycky to compare pictures or drawings............... I will try to put some pictures from the plane in the page (a first time so, crossing my fingers) about the conical air intakes and the nose breaking down, we can see that it is possible to declare, that on one picture Acad is better, and on other Heller is matching it ! The goal is to make a model of the SEM as beautifull as Rob one's and to be happy with, and as stated on my last post it all depends of the accuracy and time you want to pass on the model. Conical air intake Conical, an

Hello, Canopy polisher had answering the way I intended to do, by comparing the Academy and the Heller offer : - Academy has crisp engraving and a nice fitting but the shape is far from correct, kinda corpulent fuselage also missing the squeezed area at the wing level, too long and cylindrical air intakes and the nose "breaking" down profil is missing (point that is not correct also on the Airfix / Heller 1/48 SEM ?!!). - Heller is to be engraved, had lots of sink marks and a difficult fitting, but regarding the details is far better (magnificent main wheels, correct tank) and a perfect sh

Hello all, some more informations : - The Damocles pod from L'ARSENAL with its dedicated pylon for the SEM is really a beauty, very detailed with fine engraving (my plan is to fit it on my corrected HB Rafale M in Libian configuration) - A very good decal MODEL ART sheet is existing in 1/72 scale, and is really a must have for an accurate model, french enthousiast based in UK (Link http://www.amv83.fr/Modelart/72060.jpg) - The very last modification done on the SEM for the Afghan opération in December is the quite big triangle antennae just behing the hood on the back of the plane visible

Hi, Some very minor differences well shown to the following links, it is in french language but scroll down the page and there are some comparative pictures : http://www.aviation-fr.info/guide/m2000.php As also : http://florent1973.free.fr/FrenchAirWings/francais/walk%20around/avions/Mirage.2000-5/w_Mirage2000-5_general_1.htm (on the left side, there is a combo that is "cutting" in areas the plane, plenty of details there) However it is missing some few details : - There are 4 visible strenght little nerves around the nose cone, on each side - You will need to add the four special pyl

For other paints, Tamiya XF13 and XF53 is a good match, as well as Gunze H330 and H331. Regarding the Mirage IV, if you go for the green and grey scheme, the belly is the same grey color as the upper surfaces. (in fact paint it totally grey, then apply the green) The other possibility is the earlier version in overall natural metal......... This is a nice project but prepare your filler and sand paper as this is not an easy assembly !

Hi Julien, I confirm, blue grey underside, look at the link : http://img292.imageshack.us/f/n61933tdew0.jpg/ Fanchig

Dear Julien, I'm not a specialist, but I've done some few research in several references for you. You're right stating that it is not what we called "Tchad" scheme wich is tipycally "Vanillia-Chocolate", under wings and belly mat aluminium. (for those that might be interested the colors are Gunze H318 (sand) + H72 (Choco), old enamel Xtra colors X380 / X379) That scheme had changed for the first Gulf War in 1991, with numerous variations, very noticeable on Jaguar at that time. The "Vanillia" became "Cream", and "Chocolate" as "Toffees". At start, the belly was still Mat aluminium, but
