  1. Ok, been spraying happily with Humbrol enamels for a few years now, not really much problems with my Aztek and (unbadged) smart jet compressor. Mostly been doing 1/72 aircraft, matt and satin colours with Klear/future where necessary and usually Humbrol MattCote/SatinCote where needed. Now I've started a car......... Oh dear God..... The last car I painted, bout 10 years ago, was with a fresh tin of humbrol gloss black brushed on bare plastic, and I've never been able to get that kind of a super smooth finish since, with the airbrush. It was ok with aeroplanes, as the orange-peel I was get
  2. Try this, get a bottle of household ammonia, and a pair of rubber gloves (disposable ones are better) the ammonia under the brand Klean Off (ironic, no?) is in most Irish supermarkets. decant some ammonia into a glass jar, (find one in the recycling bin) and get some kitchen paper. GO OUTSIDE! dip the paper/cloth into the ammonia and wipe off the klear; keep another bowl of water nearby and keep the model, cloth and jar of ammonia at eye level and away from your face, the fumes will kill you! have fun and let me know how you get on....
  3. Go here........ http://s102164210.onlinehome.us/forums/ind...topic=55894&hl= and here...... http://scaleair.com/Tomcatgb/Entries/061-0...65/entry065.htm and even here.... http://scaleair.com/Tomcatgb/Entries/061-0...66/entry066.htm I did what you intend, used them as practice, and a lot of spare parts lying around. One was that heller boxing, the other was an airfix boxing. You needen't worry about the beaver tail, as on that issue it was modified, but I would change the nozzles if I was you. Wheels too. All in all, they turned out ok, but they cost me nothing really. Now I'm on my 4
  4. Liam, did u get hold of a connie then? Let me know if not. Also, second what Ross said, what is wrong with the kit nacelles? Just wondering too
  5. edited cos it's none of my business...
  6. What's wrong? Apart from the missing swastika, (which is a personal preference anyway) I can't see anything. kudos!
  7. Ah Yes, the sequel to the Final Countdown. So I'm not the only one who's seen it. I especially liked how all the aircraft from CVW-8 appeared together in that one, so you had pilots from RA-5Cs, RF-8Gs and F-14A TARPS Tomcats all arguing over who actually got the photos of the Scud Missiles in Normandy. I was especially fond of the scene where the Vigilante tried to take a barrier landing on the CV-6 USS Enterprise, due to the fact that Gen. McArthur had annexed the rear half of the Nimitz's deck to hold a press conference. It was nice that Chuck Yeager got to be the first man on the moon, but
  8. Forgot to say, detail on instrument panel is as kit, but the side panels are blank, I used spare F-14 cockpit decals cut down the middle lenghtwise! It's all I had!
  9. Phantom, remember you were offering up some 1/72 Nimitz F-14s to the modelling Gods, do you still have them to dispose of?????? pm inbound
  10. Falcon vac form conversion, back half of an old Hasegawa F-8E model. Should've used a new one, the top of the fin is missing a corner (rounded off rather than sharp). Would like to get another to use on Academy kit. Decals are from the spares box (mostly microscale F-8 stencils) and Scalemaster Navy letters/numbers sheet. Stripes are painted (should be black, not green, must repaint) Also need to build an Island/mast, and photo it all near the seaside! Or just buy 1/72 Fibreglass Nimitz class hull when I win the lotto....... retire and build it! Cheers, Roy
  11. some more... view from vultures row visiting FG.1 with appropriate titles... A-7 taxiing forward
  12. another The ship is in a narrow harbour, with some monstrous vegetation!
  13. Was messing about with the camera late one september evening. Here's the result. Please ignore the background! Pretend you only see sky! `
  14. Here we go, been meaning to post these up for a while. Not being able to link directly to the site is a bear.... anyways.... Decided eventually to do the second as the twin-stick. The single seat will be the Red Viggen show scheme. Camo painting will be fun.... Building side by side, there is a difference in the amount of filler needed. Whether this is a difference in kits or my building practices I don't know. Had the same issues with the 2 Fujimi F-4Ns lately. The position of the second cockpit is vague.... so dry fit it all and touch the Tenax to the bridge section.. The seats
  15. Looks pretty cool! One thing I'd suggest, if you don't mind, put a black wash in the back of the intakes behind the propellors. A smiley face will finish it off! The rest is fab, what way did you do the weathering? It certainly looks 'lived-in'. Good job! R
  16. Is she painted silver or grey? And if this is authentic, what does that say for our Korean era models? I can't tell!
  17. As I understand it, VX-4 always flew gull grey/white Phantoms at the same time as the rest of the fleet. Then a series of paint/camo experiments resulted in a number of different schemes. One was a strange blue-blue/green-blue scheme, and one was gloss black. The gloss black scheme had as much to do with corrosion control than night-time ops, I think, but the scheme became a tradition for the modex '1' bird. The first was a -J, 153783, and I think the longest serving. Note, I have seen two styles of bunny head on this. This aircraft was later sold to the UK as one of 74Squads F-4J(UK) (F.3)s.
  18. Hi Shaun go here.... http://s102164210.onlinehome.us/forums/ind...topic=93015&hl= these 2 are early issue F-4Ns. The later issues of US/Japan/German F-4s have multi-part canopies, some bulkheads for the cockpit and in some cases, white metal parts. Cockpit detail is on a par with ESCI/Italeri kits (decals for instrument panels). The third generation Fujimi kits are of the UK FG.1(F-4K) and FGR.2 (F-4M). These last are far superior in detail and cockpits are up there with the best resin stuff. Even later issues of these were retooled with separate drooping ailerons (like the Monogram 1/7
  19. 1/72? (And if anyone's got the 1/72 part of the JR history sheet and won't be using it???)
  20. Me too! I need to see a better pic of this! TIA R
  21. Dmanton300; Wow. magnificent model! What mods did you need to do to the tail for the F-110? I've got the Fujimi F-14A+ kit, and a pair of JRs in the stash. Only one -A kit from Hasegawa so far.
