  1. I'm looking for an old kit of the AMT USS Enterprise from Star Trek. It must be one of the early "long box" kits, from before the molds were remade in 1975. If you have a junk kit that you built when you were a boy, that will do. There are certain parts from this early kit which I wish to cannibalize.
  2. Thats a great link, Jay! I remember building the early Enterprise kit with the lights when I was a kid. It was hell trying to get the warp nacelles to stay in position with the early kits. The current kit is less accurate in some ways. I understand there are some aftermarket parts to improve the kit. Does anyone know anything about them?
  3. I just got a kit of the old AMT Enterprise TOS for Christmas. I've built it before, and I have seen the kit modified a couple of times before. They changed it again. The old gridwork has been removed from the saucer, but even better, the decal sheet is vastly improved. There are alternate decals for both pilot versions of the Enterprise, and ISS Enterprise from the episode Mirror, Mirror, and there are alternate decals for all the other Constitution Class starships. Decals of smaller markings are included that were omitted from earlier decal sheets. And the font has been corrected from t
  4. Why couldn't they have made it in 1/72 scale? I really wish someone would. 1/96 scale? Where did that come from???
  5. I agree. Slats on an F-14 are like a bayonet on an M-16. By no means do you want to use it to kill the enemy, but when you need it, you need it baaaad.
  6. Most air combat occurs below speeds at which they would be deployed, and then they are just expensive to maintain extra weight. The Navy must have decided that, overall, they were a net liability. I would be interested to know how much of a loss of high Mach manuverability there was without them. I have seen photos of the vanes deployed at intermediate wing sweep. I think they also came out for turns at slower speeds, but I'd like to know more about that.
  7. They are automatic. I found this info: http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_qa38...i_n8797861/pg_5 Now to figure out at what speed they are deployed...
  8. I have seen photos of F-14s flying at altitude with the wing slats deployed. I'd like to build a gear up kit of an F-14 with the slats and flaps down in a slow speed turn, and the stabilizers in substantial deflection. The F-14 is supposed to be very good in a slow speed fight. But I have also seen photos of an F-14 pulling a tight turn with spread wings and the slats up. So how slow does an F-14 have to be before the slats come down? Is it automatic, or does the pilot have to lower them?
  9. I bought a new Paasche D500 compressor, and my airbrush works fine now.
  10. I built the 1/144 scale C-5A. I'm waiting for a 1/72 scale kit. THAT would be awesome!
  11. So, you are saying a FrankenCat D version should be mainly a Fujimi kit with Hasegawa wheels, cockpit and chin pods? Didn't I read that Hasegawa has more accurate D engine exhausts? Are there any other parts to borrow?

    Future?

It looks like the market for Future just crashed!! :)

    Future?

I have not been able to find anything called "Future" in my local stores, but I did buy something called "Pledge With FUTURE Shine". Is that it? Or did I just blow $8? Its a "premium floor finish" with "tough acrylic protection".
  14. Oh no, now I know too much. I built the Revell F-111B as a fleet aircraft, with VF-2 decals. Now the nose and the intakes are wrong. Was the tail of the production F-111B aircraft supposed to be truncated like production USAF F-111 variants, or were they to be pointy and tapered like the prototypes? The thingy between the burner cans changed shape, and so did the thingys between the burner cans and the tailerons.
  15. The FB-111A had longer wings than the F-111A. The FB-111A had the later style intakes, while the F-111A had a big splitter plate by each intake.
  16. I was looking in my copy of the Aerofax B-58 book (its excellent), and I found a photo of a model of a B-58 proposal with what look like 12 Mk 82 bombs. The caption reads: "The slightly enlarged and significantly more powerful B-58B was proposed as an iron bomb-capable transport to the USAF. This configuration, in 1967, would later be tested at Eglin AFB, FL, using stock B-58's from the 305th BW." The bombs are mounted on special pylons at the wing roots. two bombs are in line in front, and two pairs behind. 1-1-2-2
  17. I guess they are going to have to build a model to put in a wind tunnel with some properly weighted bombs...
  18. I want 1/72 decals of VF-143 on the Eisenhower in 1990. It was the first cruise of the F-14B.
  19. I don't want to swipe this canopy from that guy, but if its a 1/72 bubble canopy, then I'd like it too. If you don't hear from him, let me know...
  20. If the guy said "This twit knows stuff-all about German markings.", then it sounds like he wasn't talking to you. Perhaps he didn't even know the builder was within earshot. If that was the case, you shouldn't be offended. I dunno, I wasn't there. I am no expert on German WWII markings, but a Luft '46 aircraft really ought to look as plausable as possible. If German aircraft markings held to a particular style, then conform to that style as closely as you can. Isn't the whole point to make an intelligent extrapolation? I mean, sure, you could stick yellow "RESCUE" arrows from a US Nav
  21. Looks good. Question: How big are real tarmac squares? Does it vary? Is there a common or standard size?
  22. I just found some more information, and I think the problem is my new little Whirlwind II compressor. The specifications printed on the compressor box say that it is 1/20 horsepower, 35 psi max pressure and 20 psi when airbrushing. On the internet, I found the specifications for my Badger 350 are: REQUIRES: Air Regulated Compressor -or- Propellant. SPECS: Power requirements: at least 1/12 horsepower compressor. PSI: 20 to 40 lbs. What do you think, is it underpowered for my airbrush? :)
  23. I get airflow. The bush appears to be clean, and I can see and blow through the whole path the paint is supposed to take. Its maddening! I can't see why it won't draw paint. It should work. I have an another, older copy of the same airbrush, and I switched some parts, but no dice. I'm about to fork over $$ and buy a new airbrush in desperation.
  24. Nope. I even replaced the jar lid and elbow with another spare. No luck. I'm waiting for someone to tell me my compressor sucks or something.
