  1. It's a problem for just about all aircraft, especially as they get bigger. When you are on an airliner you can feel nearly every joint, crack and bump on the ramp and taxi-way and sometimes see the wings flex because of the lack of damping. There have been studies done on introducing active controls in the landing gear system to force a response from ground loads, but I haven't heard of anything being operationally used. Cheers
  2. That's part of the problem. The landing gear is most efficient at the initial point of landing where there is high velocity and high rate of strut closure. The impacts during taxiing are less than those encountered during landing and the strut orifices are so large that there is little or no damping from the landing gear while on the ground. Combine this with increasingly flexible airfames and you have increased fatigue damage from ground vibration. Cheers
  3. Alliance Model Works produces decals of ACU & MARPAT, Alliance Model Works Store Cheers
  4. The crash site may have been found, RNoAF C-130J
  5. MF45 is scheduled for 28 May thru 22 Jun 2012, Open House day is 16 Jun. Twelve nations are expected to particpate including Canada, France, US, UK, New Zealand, Brazil, Mexico, Germany, Austria, Netherlands and Singapore. The USN is planning on bringing F/A-18E/F's, their first visit here.
  6. It now goes by the name Pledge Premium Finish with Future Shine.
  7. The Australian site has more info on line than the Canadian site does. Ours is limited to Attestation Papers currently, the rest has to be ordered. I found info from AWM on an Aussie cousin who died of wounds in Oct 1917 in Belguim, at a Canadian Field Hospital.
  8. You can order a copy of his military service file from the Canadian Archives thru the Soldiers of the First World War . I got the WW1 records for both my grandfathers and my uncle's WW2 service record. The Military & Peacekeeping has a list of more collections that can be searched including Medals, Honours and Awards and CEF War Diaries.
  9. You could try searching the Canada Gazetteand the London Gazette.
  10. Due to the operational comittments of many of the participants MF44 has been cancelled. The 18 Jun airshow will still happen, but in a "modified" format. MF45 is still scheduled for 2012. ;)
  11. As I understand it, Tranche 3A & 3B is a financial division not a capabilities division. A final decision hasn't been made on Tranche 3 configuration but possible options include upgraded avionics, computers and power systems, larger EFT's or CFT's, provision for AESA radar and improved/upgraded engines possibly with thrust vectoring. Some of these upgrades may require structural mods that could make it difficult to update Tranche 2 aircraft.
  12. The CF will be deploying 2 more CP140's to conduct maritime patrols as part of the arms embargo. :P
  13. CF units will operate out of Trapani-Birgi, Sicily.
  14. "White" coveralls would be the dominant kit (crisp, new issue white for a VIP visit), ground crews could also be seen in the blue-grey service or battle dress, with or without tunic/blouse, long or short sleeve shirt, t-shirt or no shirt. There is the possiblity of summer tans as well, though I don't remember seeing them here.
