  1. I'm 99% complete on my 1/72 Academy F-14A in Jolly Rogers livery Victory 202 as it appeared in The Final Countdown dogfight scene. I added Reedoak pilot and RIO figures, Quinta Studio 3D cockpit decals, Reskit armaments, and VF-84 decals from Wolfpack Design. I've got a couple of minor details to take care of (anti-collision lights and the white patch on the starboard leading edge of the wing glove), but I'm essentially done. I'm very happy with how it came out despite a couple of minor issues. I plan on doing a conversion of a T-6 Texan to a Zero next so I can display them together and then a
  2. Hi, this is my second Fine Molds Tomcat in 1/72. I have decided to represent an aircraft from IRIAF with wing, leading egde, flap, spoilers and aerobrake open. I have used Hasegawa wings (with some modification to represent the spoilers) and Fujimi pilots. Decals are from Print Scale (and some from Linden Hill). Sparrow and Sidewinder from Eduard. The colors are a huge mix of several Gunze reference (with a lot of trying). I have try to represent the correct camo from 3-6039 (according to a video and some picture from the same day as the video). Most of the camouflage has no blur e
  3. I’ll be building my next Tamiya cat as one of the first in the fleet - VF-1 Wolfpack’s second 101 bird, which has been modeled a lot. Research is one of the things that really appeals to me in modeling, and this project has given me a lot to learn! For instance: the first VF-1 plane to be painted as NK-101 was this one, BuNo 158627. I believe it was a Block 65 machine. Note the radome without a tan front section, long gun muzzle trough (short cover), the black skunk stripe over the canopy and spine, completely white nose gear doors, pin striping around the NACA intake on the ventr
  4. This is more a personal curiosity question for any of the Tomcat experts out there. I'm working on a 1/72 Academy F-14A in VF-84 markings for an eventual diorama of the Tomcat/Zero dogfight scene in The Final Countdown. I've been over the film footage more than is reasonable for a sane person and I noticed that the F-14's have mismatched Sidewinders loaded. AJ202 has an older Sidewinder (probably AIM-9H) on Station 1A (it's got a dark metallic seeker head with the smaller swept single delta canards) and a newer 'Winder (I'm guessing AIM-9L, grey seeker with larger double delta canards) on Stat
  5. Just got a copy of the updated Colours and Markings of the F-14 Tomcat Part 2 - Pacific Fleet Sqns, and on top of page 12 is a photo of Modex 114, BuNo 159465 taken on 11th June 1977. This means that this aircraft does have the same type of beaver tail as featured in the Tamiya kit and can be built with very small modifications (I see the temperature probe on the port forward fuselage just below the windshield) in combination with the recently released Big Red Fighter Squadron from Fightertown Decals. However, I can't decipher the names on the canopy rails, so does anyone know who these woul
  6. Here are some more completed illustrations, this time F-14A's from VF-111. More work of mine can be found here:PRESS
  7. No, not a new song title, but trying to determine what shade of blue was used on the VF-143 F-14As in the light gull gray over white era. I have the Furball Decals, and they specify Insignia Blue for the tops of the tailfins (that must be painted), but that will not match the blue trim of the tailfins and the three stripes on the forward fuselage. Looking at photos on the web, the blue is definitely lighter than the dark blue of the insignia. The hue varies with the photos too - in one photo it definitely has a hint of red in it which I can find no FS match for. In others it looks less ric
  8. I recently got this kit as a started one that was missing pieces. I was able to go thru my spares and find all I needed except the following: A10 (intake-see picture) MA #1,2,7,9,10 (PE fret-see picture) I'll be happy to take them used, painted, whatever you got and will pay for your time and parts. Thanks a bunch! Later, Lee
  9. Some details of new PE set are installed on model. The set made of 0.05mm thick stainless steel and has many optional parts. 10. Looking for: ONLY PMTC tail decals and PMTC title from F-14A Tomcat decal sheet. PM me with details. I can pay or trade other decals. R/ Dutch
  11. In this thread I will post some of my personal pics taken when I was in VF-33. Most were taken underway aboard the USS America in 1985 (North Atlantic) or 1986 (Med). To start off, here is the tail of the ill fated Starfighter 213. I believe this was BuNo 161148, M.A.T.S. has the mishap date correct for this BuNo but lists it as a VF-32 bird - believe that is a typo. We got this jet just prior to departing on our '86 cruise and she was one of three block 110's we had. She was a flier, strong radar, and all around good jet. She was during a PMCF flight where somehow she ended up in
  12. Hello guys. currently I'm building a Hobby Boss F-14A Tomcat, and will be using fightertown sheet 48013 Desert Storm Nose Art, for the VF-41 AJ-101 jet. On the instruction it is not clear what color the walkways are. it even looks like there are none at all, or this might just be a mistake on mine. I already contacted Brian through the website, but he isn't home until around early april to check his reference. out of his head he says they where black. Is there anybody here how can help me with this. can't find any pictures of this aircraft from the top.
