kurnass77
Hy all guys, with the Buccaneer virtually finished ( I hope I can take pictures tomorrow ) is time to start the thread for my next build. This is going to be a British Tornado Gr.1 nicknamed " Nikki " and based at Muharraq,Barhain. For the model I will use the Aires cockpit and wheelbays and the Model Alliance "Tornado at War" decal sheet.I chose this particular plane because one of my most vivid memories of Desert Storm is the picture on the news of "Nikki" that releases in quick succession three LGBs. First of all the photos of the various components. [/img] After this brief presentation we pass to the construction of the model:the Revell pit is one of the best OOB model that I ever seen but the Aires is a little gem but as each kit of this brand has a poor fit with the base model, then sanding stick and elbow grease, with the added handicap of having to match even with the nose wheelbay ...But in the end everything was in place. [/img] The preshadowed tub... [/img] ...and painted [/img] The various IPs PE parts painted with the Gunze H-22 and drybrushe with with various shades of gray. [/img] And the offices finished. [/img] [/img] [/img] The bang seats [/img] [/img] As always critique and suggestion are welcome. I hope you enjoy. :D Gianni

Thanks Benner! yes, this is my idea, but the kit only provides two bombs, then I have three options:load it with only two LGBS, cast with resin a kit bomb or look for some after market kit ... spike7451
Coming on nicely Gianni,Don't forget to add the NVG control panel to the left of the HUD,It was a modification done for the RAF Tornado for Op Granby/DS. Incidentally Gianni, the jet you are modelling,ZA491,Crashed into the North Sea in 2004 & was written off. http://www.mod.uk/ Here's a zap you might like to print off for the base;
kurnass77
Thanks for all Spike! I will as soon as possible to add the detail that you gave me suggested; is really sad to know that "my" planes crashed but at least the crew ejected safely! :D Gianni

Tripio
Hi Gianni, nice to see another build from you.Great choice. Taking into consideration your builing speed, you will finished the group build with a Jaguar... Let me ask,is this really an Aires set?It looks a little bit simple...does it worth to buy? Your cockpit looks great. :) Otherwise I was quite satisfied with the Revell cockpit,so this Tornado was an OOB build for me. Keep the pictures coming. Regards,Laz
cknight725
<CLICK> 'Track this Thread' After watching the "Debbie" build I'd be crazy not to! Hell of a start that's for sure ...
kurnass77
Thanks guys!! Hi Gianni, nice to see another build from you.Great choice. Regards,Laz Laz, as I said the box 's pit is one of the most beautiful I've seen, with small additions can be achieved a model at the level of the Aires one.I bought because I found it at about half the cost from an eBay seller. Where you really see the difference between the kit pieces and the Aires stuff is in the wheelbays: the Revell are a good base but the Aires are fantastic! Indeed, the idea of a Jaguar is more than tempting! Maybe if I can find the kit ... Gianni

kurnass77
Hi fellas, as promised here are the pictures of my progress. First, a pair of general view. [/img] [/img] The terrible aspect of the air intakes. [/img] And my solution [/img] Other areas that fit together terribly. [/img] [/img] My solution to the rubber seals of the wings. [/img] [/img] On the advice of Spike I added next to the HUD the NVG control. [/img] And a small detail work on the canopy rail. [/img] And all for today, I hope to spray a bit of color as soon as possible. Gianni

kurnass77
Good day all mates, despite the parties are able to show my little progress. Deacon, Mr. B thanks for your kindness! Mr. B the FOD covers are made with a Magic Sculpt foil. Is a very simple procedure used to realize stuff like cloak for the figures; if you want I can realize a little tutorial... With the addition of the HUD combined glass the cockpit is complete. [/img] I glued and filled the windshield. [/img] Also, I detailed a bit the belly pylons. [/img] The Hindenburger tanks. Can anyone tell me what is the exact color? They are very light but not white ... [/img] That's all! With the windshield sanded and the IFR probe glued in position I can start to paint the model so stay tuned because also I want to try the use of the Humbrol enamels. Merry Christmas,Gianni
Tripio
Wow,good job,Gianni. Regards,Laz
spike7451
Coming on nicely Gianni, the big jug tanks are the same colour as the ones used by the F-3's cuz that's where we pinched them!! Some were painted Dulux salmon pink emulsion tho. As to your weapon pylons, cut all the tabs off as shown in the photo below & sand flush. The only thing you will see on the real thing is the MACE fairings. (those wavy things either side of the front & back stations) I gather the white blobs are meant to be sway braces, which are not used by the RAF Tornado. The real thing; Edited December 26, 2010 by spike7451
kurnass77
Hi all mates. Tripio,Spike thanks for your words and for the info, I fixed the belly pylons... [/img] ...and glued the IFR probe [/img] An overview of the model ready for preshading, I hope to start in the afternoon. [/img] [/img] Spike I need a information : how and where the intake FOD are fixed at the bottom? :D Gianni
spike7451
Gianni, The is a 'Y' shaped elastic cord that runs from each corner of the intake to a point in the main gear well as in the photo. Merv Edited December 27, 2010 by spike7451

Benner
a little late, but if this is a pretty good detailed shot of the IFR probe area. BTW, nice paint work so far. So, are you going to be doing a Victor and Nimrod down the road too? Edited January 2, 2011 by Benner
