Mr B
Hi Folks It's been a while since I have put a build log on ARC and I have decided to do so with this build as this very kit was purchased via the read ship on this forum some years back...... So the start ..... wonderful box art ...going to frame it once done not much to build I guess...looks very straightforward....might go with an inflight config the decals.....I hope they transfer ok.....any advise to prep them before use guys ? Started with the seat....last night.......next will be painting the internals......which will follow on my next update.... Nice kit, details look good except it's raised lines and the clear parts are a bit on the chucky side..... rgds mr b Edited June 10, 2014 by Mr B
Mr B
got a slight update ...... Paint is on......going with green as opposed to black......those injection marks will not be visible once done The tub all done too...just need some weathering and a cote of flat next up the panel...... and finally the seat...no belts as I have decided to put Brubacker inside...... Great details for a not so new kit ......Monogram really has good out of box details........even by today's standards.....in my view......base painting Brubacker ...and hope to complete the whole cockpit stuff in a few days..... Then onto the final assembly and painting .......might just put it on its gear.....too lazy to fiddle around with the gear doors..... rgds mr b
82Whitey51
That's a favorite kit of mine, classic. I know there are plenty of aftermarket decal sheet for 1/48 Panthers but I have that decal sheet if you want it.
Mr B
Thanks for the offer man...but I 'll given them a try first and if all fails, I will be in contact.......agree with you it's one of those monogram gems......I hope I do it justice rgds mr b
Joel_W
Looking really good. It's certainly an Oldie but a Goodie. The movie "The Bridges at Toko Ri (1954) is still a personal favorite of mine. Those decals are already yellowing. Save the sheet if you want, but get yourself some excellent replacement ones. Joel
huntermountain
Very nicely done. Looks like the moulded in detail of the cockpit is quite crisp. Edited June 10, 2014 by huntermountain
Jinxter13
Looking very good, that has to be one of the best offices I've seen Monovell ever put in a kit.
Pappy121
Mad skillz Mr B! A great example of a stock cockpit that already has ample detail painted up very nicely. It really just needs some seat belts. I am looking forward to seeing how the rest will turn out, cheers, Pappy
Pappy121
Ooops sorry double post! Pappy Edited June 14, 2014 by Pappy121
toadwbg
I remember really enjoying building this kit when it first came out.
Mr B
Thanks for the input guys...much appreciated.....hope to get it done up nicely ....I agree totally the details are great for a kit of this vintage......put some new kits to shame too.... just mucking about with uploading photos via iPhone and photobucket......hope it works..... Progress...got the pit all done and Harry Brubacker is in......had to do some surgery for him to fit..... Better pictures and progress hopefully soon thanks for dropping by and happy modeling folks rgds mr b
Mr B
Progress I have glued the halfs together and decided on an inflight display via a stand......so that bit sticking out is to house the stand........ Took a gamble to hack away on the nicely molded kit parts......to close the doors .....as you can see the fit is iffy..... This is how it looks after all sanded.....filled with putty and super glue.....mostly.....there is still some dust when this picture is taken.........next onto the rear gear doors......to clean up....and the various seams left over...... Not too much more to go.......I guess Happy Modeling chaps...... Best Regards Mr B
HOLMES
Mr.B... OOH I LOVE the Panther. Your build is INSPIRING... WOW!!! Nice
Mr B
Thanks Mr Holmes much obliged for your motivational words as always......anyways got an update. Everything is together and all seams are done...except for the elevators ....next will be the weapons and final scrub down for painting..... You can see Brubacker in the first picture....he needs some rework......but that will be later...... Happy Modeling folks mr b
Mr B
hi Folks I got a small update - started the painting process.....done with the shiny bits and next is to mask it up, paint the rear deck green put on the canopies and go navy blue...if all goes well....Hope to finish it by weekend So far, this is a very nice stress free build......the fit is good and it's so simple with not many parts and over engineered steps/processes Happy Modeling folks rgds mr b
Joel_W
Just curious. Did you use a Metalizer like Alcad 11 for the NMF or a enamel or acrylic paint? Joel
Mr B
Just curious. Did you use a Metalizer like Alcad 11 for the NMF or a enamel or acrylic paint? Joel Hi Joel I used Gunze Super Fine Silver (laquer based) on top of a undercoat of Black from Gunze too..... Thanks mr b
Joel_W
Since it's lacquer based, I'm guessing that it's almost the same as Alcad 11 or Testors Metalizers. Bottom line is that It looks great. Looking forward to seeing the Dark Navy Sea Blue painted on. Should really be spectacular.

Joel

Mr B
Thanks Joel slight update....all ready for the paint shop. Not much to go now.Had compressor problems hence the delay but all on line once again Rgds mr b
Jinxter13
The markings are great, and I love that movie, thankfully they used actual markings from a real squadron, unlike the markings used in Topgun not a squadron actually on board a carrier, or that phony Super Bug unit in "Behind enemy lines". I just may have to go out and get one of those Panthers that is if I can find one . Edited July 9, 2014 by #1 Greywolf
Mr B
Thanks Clif - I agree with you great markings really brings the aeroplane to life ......... Anyways Getting there all painted and decaled ......all stood up well.....but some minor tearing on the star and bar underside and I managed to put it on the wrong wing......doh.....well live and learn.......one more star was trashed as it was too close to the nose number....had to use an extra trim of most of the blue and bang it on..... Next weapons and weathering and call it done after that..... Pardon the pics .....just shot them as I was about to go out for dinner..... Rgds mr b
Joel_W
Mr. B. The Paint scheme came out fantastic. Decaling really looks good, so you covered your error just fine. Honestly, I never would have noticed. Love your combination model stand & airbrush holder :rolleyes:/> Joel
Mr B
Thanks for the nice words Joel. Yeah kinda need to imprevise when the juices get going :) sort of a two for one...it's actually mainly used as an airbrush holder ...... rgds mr b
Mr B
It's done and finished It was a joy to build ......long live monogram I'll post better pics and maybe a write up to Mr Steve once I get a chance to rgds and happy modelling to all mr b
