skyhawk174
Well I just finished the Tamiya 1/48 F-84 and it was great. Pieces fit amazingly, well except for the nose but that may have been me. I would think any of the Tamiya jet kits would be a wise choice for a fast build. The MiG 15 someone else mentioned is good too from what others have said.
Janissary
Great suggestions all around, definitely an eye opener. It's been such a pleasure researching many of these kits since yesterday. Many I had no idea. I am especially surprised to see some of the Monogram kits have engraved lines! For kits with raised details, is there any way to restore them after sanding the seams such that even up close they would look good? This is something I have never figured out and it is the only reason I haven't ventured into raised detail kits.
Charlie D.
With careful sanding, I needed no restoration of the raised panel lines on the f-84f, f-105d and f9f-5 kits, they fit really well.
Darren Roberts
If you have to restore raised lines, one trick is to push your X-Acto blade into the plastic along where the line should run. That pushes the plastic up into a ridge and you can't tell the difference between that and the raised lines.
echolmberg
Ditto on the Monogram Panther. I'd also like to add the Monogram F-86F and their F-89. Very simple. Excellent fit. Just wings, tail, fuselage, landing gear and cockpit...the way God intended.
Fighting Eighty-Four
Hasegawa F-16s. Mark This is the one I was going to suggest. Then again, I have only built 10 kits total. Another easy one for me was the Monogram OA-4M, and the Hasegawa F-4s go together quick too. Edited July 12, 2016 by Fighting Eighty-Four
DonSS3
While I normally would suggest Monogram kits, the F-86 I'm a little leery of. I had a really bad mismatch on the lower wing/fuselage joint. I don't know if it was my fault or the kits, but I had a really bad step and I ended up sanding so much plastic off the wing center section, that the silver plastic was almost translucent. The wings were level and fore-aft alignment looked good, so I'm not sure what went wrong there.
