Andrew D. the Jolly Rogers guy
What sort of wing wear is this at the wing roots of this heavily worn bird I've been building (for over a year...)? The rusty-colored areas, is that from crew walking there, or something else?
Darren Roberts
Great picture! I love the weathering on it. I'm not an F-16 expert, but if memory serves, it's sand/dirt build up.
USAFsparkchaser
Yes sand and dirt mixed with fuel oil leaks.
BillS
The wing root finger braces, the structure that an F-16 wing is attached too, can leak. This necessitates injecting a sealant to slow fuel seepage. Epoxy cement is also used to “plug things up” if you will. All of this attracts native soil producing what you see in that image.
Sleepy
All that, and no pre-shading in sight...

Niels
On a different forum there was a similar discussion over a Belgian F-16 with heavy weathering on the wings - in that case it was leakage from the HAS roof that had left what looked like mud/dust staines on the wings.
