1/72 MPC F-5E Tiger II

401st Air Squadron, Mexican Air Force (FAM).

This aircraft, 4003, was destroyed in a mid-air collision on Sept. 16, 1995.

I made several changes in the kit, including LEX additions where the wing leading edge meets the fuselage, and a fin fillet. I also used photo-etched seatbelts, ladder from Flightpath, gunsight mount and rear-view mirrors. Decals are from Aztec of Mexico. The rudder tricolor is painted on. I added a drop of black to the dark green and a drop of white to the tan color, for better contrast.

Kit is not one of the best out there, but it was inexpensive and bought on ebay.

Overall, a fast (about one month) and fun build.

Cool!!

VIVA MEXICO CA....!!!!

If it is a MPC kit it must be an Airfix kit.

And yes, we lost 2 F-5 and a T-33 during the 1995 national independence parade.

Thanks for the comments, muchachos!

I forgot to mention that I DID try to reshape the nose to the "shark" nose. I sanded it somewhat flat, and then added some putty to the sides, and then sanded it all down. I don't think I really got it exactly right, though.

I couldn't figure out the proper nose color, my reference pix seem to show dark green, pero quien sabe???

Thanks for looking, and for the constructive criticism, too!

De acuerdo, Viva Mexico, ........
