Hello!

Now ill hope that this topic will not be "left alone" and forgotten, im actually trying to keep yall guys updated ;)

I bought this kit in Russia, because some money was left after i bought 1/72 Roden An-12

I started some of the cockpit while still in Russia, but didnt even start the control stick.

Its very little i can say about this kit, i PMmmed Zmey about this kit. Not bad, i thought.

I have scratchbuilt 3 medic-packs (in case of an emergency) From wood. Painted them white and added red cross, and voila! I added 2 in the tub' and 1 in the seat.

That "red thing" that i though is an fire extinguisher (spelling?) was an actually the boost rocket to ejection seat! Aaargh, i have already painted it R E D

So here's some crappah pics of the cockpit (stick isnt done, yet :) )

Panel and backwall (?)

P1000024.jpg

And a quick pic of the box that shows you im not building the other Revell Kamov.

Please feel free to critisize and comment, thanks! :)

Hey there,

glad you got your new camera. The picture quality is so much better. That cockpit really looks good. The controls look very nicely painted too.The only suggestion I have is the seat.It should be flat. It's just too bright.Great job. :yahoo:

Looking good "fullback" () I like the look of the rotors and 'pit.

Fuselage halves glued. Is this a some kind of experiment? Leaving me with almost no comments? (thanks Matt!)
It happens sometimes - especially with choppers it seems

Your paintbrush work in the cockpit is very nice. You could have done a wash and drybrushing but that's not important. Did you properly stir the black paint ? It looks glossy. Please take care of the seams ! :D

Ok since your yelling I will comment on your Hokum. So far looks good. What camo/color scheme are you going to finish it up in? The rotor assembly looks very challenging to build. I would like to build this kit at some point and time. Overall what is your impression of the kit.

Oh, looks like BBCode has payed off

For the paintjob, black  I i hope you arent dissapointed because it will be........... just black.

Rotor assembly was pretty challenging, in terms of "lining it all up" But nothing serious challenge, my opinion.

Impressions, looks like a good kit. You can PM Zmey, he can inform you about this. I think its overall pretty good kit with nice details.

Oh man... In the cockpit! With black colour, again

Drybrushing is supposed to enhance raised details. If the part is grey, you should drybrush with white paint. If it is black, you should use grey or white paint. I've never heard of a black drybrush and I don't understand what you've done. The pilot has put shoe polish in the whole cockpit ? I don't understand. And make sure that there's almost no paint remaining on the brush. And no more ' ' with me please.

Lovely work Su but comments aren't everything. People will comment if they want to comment :) Don't take it offensively :)

Good work and a subject which isn't seen much around here sadly

True on both accounts!

Man, you wanted some advices, here we go.

I am building the same kit, but Italeri and in 1/72 scale.

Because I really love this helo, I started collecting pictures, movies and whatever related to the Hokum

that can be found in the Net.

Today I finally put the word " END " to the cockpit, so maybe tomorrow I'll post some pictures, too.

It has been an HELL, because many things are modelled in the wrong way or complitely missing.

Right, the red thing is actually a rocket, and it's placed in the wrong side. It should stand just behind the seat, it's all white and it has 2 holes missing in the kit, too. The only way to build it correctly is to re-make the back of the cockpit with all the panels, the rocket and all the wires.

Also, I was not able to find any picture of the cable linking the seat to the rocket, so I avoided to display it in my model.

The cockpit frontside is missing many things, one for all, the secondary display, on the right, close to the one under the HUD. I made it with a piece of plasticard, adding also another round instrument that was missing.

HUD too, not in the kit, can be made with a thin copper rod and a piece of trasparent plastic sheet.

Use some small tool to handle and model the copper rod, so it will have 90 degrees bending angles.

(Maybe you'll understand better what I mean in the pictures ... :beer4:)

While putting some glue to the cockpit, I realized that it supports the nose gear, so I made a cage, like a rollbar, around it, to give it some strenght. By the way, the nosegear bay is not correctly shaped.

Under the nose I built the Shkval-V sighting-aiming device, using a small plastic sheet and some reflective material stolen from my girlfriend's t-shirt ( lol ). Also, I replaced the glass of the kit with a thinner one made from the trasparent material I used for my HUD.

I read something about the rotors too, according to some it's missing some linkage, but sincerely I just started working on it and I do not have a clue, still. It seams you did a good work on it, but I have in mind to putt something to reinforce it too.

That's all for the moment, hoping to be of any help to you. Go on with the good work you are doing already, see ya soon, GH.

WOW! Thats a heck of a lot of information! Big thankyou! :beer4:  :)

Theres one BTW, HUD is included with the kit. Its a small transparent part.

Progress will be done tomorrow, because its 0.35 here in Finland and im writing from a laptop in my bed, lol :)

God Bless Finland then :)

Ok, I noticed you also have the ejecting lever, missing from my kit too, together with the HUD.

I am sure it's because of the different scale :)

Goodnight :)

Godhammer (and Su-34)......

Here's a photo I took of the K-37 ejection seat at Farnborough 2000.

You can just make out the white cylinder of the rocket at the top.

ka-50_41.jpg

I should have taken some more pics - but I was busy at the time .................

As for the rotor hub - there is lots of detail to add - but the main one is the missing control linkages..

ka-50_37.jpg

As you can see from the photo, there are connections from the bottom swashplate to the bottom set of rotors to change their pitch, then from the bottom swashplate to the top swashplate (the one in the middle).

Then from the top swashplate to the top actuating arm and - finally from that actuating arm to the top set of rotors to change their pitch.

In all there are TWELVE connections - IIRC, the Italeri kit only provides nine.

Thanks Flankerman for the info! I really appreciate that. :worship:

:woot.gif:

BTW Is that seat complete with its cushions or are they removed...? (In the pic)

Flankerman:

Thank you for the seat's picture, I have it already in my collection, lol!

And thank you also for the rotor explanations, I'll try a build this evening :)

Su-34:

In the kit the cuscion is a bit flat, so I filed away the headrest and made a new one.

I picked up a sandish color for the seat, it should be leatherblack but It would not be that visible inside the cockpit, and I am already painting all the bird in black.

Another thing I am planning to do is a brad new windshield. The kit provides an awful one, complete with that hateful lens-distort-effect that I do not like at all.

As soon as my Eos is charged I'll post some pics, so stay tuned :)

Does anybody have an idea where can I find a couple of 1/72 GSH-23 pods? I'd like to put those instead of rockets, and leave the Vihkr where they are.

One of the Dragon Soviet weapon sets had them - don't know the number from the top of my head, but it was the one with the air-to-ground missiles.

HTH,

Andre
