some new Trump 1/32 jets!

Recommended Posts

Yup - they've been mentioned on here a few times. Pity they've chosen to do the ugly-as-sin twin-seat Typhoon - hope they do a single-seater too. Still, there's a "real" fighter to come first in the shape of the Lightning. No sign of a built-up test shot then as yet, I take it?

ditto, no interest at all in the 2-holer EF2000, and really none in the Super Bug.

Take all that effort and styrene and put it into finally releasing the greatest attack aircraft the Navy ever had: Launch the Intruder!

Hmmm...

The PIRATE sensor on the nose of the Typhoon doesn't look right. It looks more like the dummy one fitted to the DA aircraft than the production unit. Bad form. Radar isn't right (I'm not going to say any more than that). The pylons also look incorrect - particularly the inner wing pylons (they look too short). They also have the tanks mounted onto regular pylons, when they should have their own built-in pylons. I can't see the other side of the jet, but I'd be interested to see whether they've done the DASS pods correctly. The Hobbyboss Tiffie doesn't have the towed decoy dispenser on the starboard wingtip pod. I've also just spotted that they've modelled the steps, but they haven't moulded the open panel in which they are stowed.

Have to say I've not been impressed based on photos. That said, since I've worked on it I've been very hard to please when it comes to Tiffie details...

Guess you'd be lucky if any new Trumpeter kit was perfect. Looks good enough for me though and I'm sure anything too inaccurate could be put right. Just a pity that they went for the ugly twin-seater. Still waiting to see the Lightning made up. If it's the same as the 72nd kit (and you have to assume it is) then it should be a pretty good kit. The jet pipes do need altering, the air brakes are too short, the belly tank needs slight alteration but it's still a very nice kit so if the 32nd one is much the same, I'll be pretty happy.

Hope the dark rumours of a 32nd Buccaneer and Jaguar prove to be true too. It's astonishing to see how much 32nd stuff has come along recently. A few years back you could hardly get anything in a big scale. I know people take swipes at Trumpeter but despite all their annoying inaccuracies, they've churned-out more stuff than anyone could have reasonably hoped for just a few years ago. let's hope it continues.

I'm not crazy about the buc, but would seriously consider buying the jag if they release it.

Some of it could. However judging from the photos I suspect that some of the problems may be quite hard to sort out without a resin correction, e.g the PIRATE sensor and the pylons. I have an uneasy feeling that Hobbyboss and Trumpeter have shared research, and if this is anything like the Hobbyboss 1/72 scale Tiffie then it's going to be an inaccurate disappointment.

Bobski, what role is the the 2-seater employed in? Just a trainer, dedicated A/G? Just curious and am not well informed on the 'Tranche' changes (did I spell that right)?

Twin-seat Typhoons are fully combat capable in both air-to-air and air-to-surface, but their primary role is conversion training. As for the tranche changes (yes, you did spell it right) they are mostly internal between tranche 1 and tranche 2. T2 jets have a strengthened airframe and stronger undercarriage to support a wider (and heavier) load of air-to-surface weaponry when we get round to clearing it. There are also some improvements in the avionics and computer systems. The changes for tranche 3 have yet to be finalised so they are anyone's guess at the moment.

What exactly are the differences between the Su-27UB and the Su-30MKK?

I just got the Trumpy UB and need to know if there is that much of a difference that would warrant purchase.

Thanks

Hmm ... Flamkrtman can surely give a much more detailed description but as far as I know:

- the UB - as in China the UBK - is a twin-seater development version of the original Flanker-B with basicly the same fuselage but the twin-cocpit + an enlarged tail (but with these "canted" tails). This one is (was) manufactured by IAPO at Irkusk as all Russian twin-sticker and the other Su-30MK versions like the Indian MKI.

- the MKK is a Chinese export version of the specialised multi-role Su-30 with a strengthend fuselage - not 100% sure - but some sources say based on the one of the updated sinlgle seater Su-27M (as it is built by KnAAPO at Komsomolsk-na-Amur). In contrast to the MK they feature the taller tails with squared tips + a twin-tyre front gear.

Additionally the avionics are different.

Agree with Chox: keep 'em rolling out but let the aftermarket take care of the minor plastic misdemeanours for the most part. A Bucc,m yeah! a single-seat Typhoon, yeah! Could really do with REVELL moving on their proposed two-seat Hawk in 1/32 - clear the shelves!

I presume you mean two-seat Hunter?! Last I heard on that subject was that there was no appetite to proceed with it for the time being as the F6 kit hadn't sold particularly well. Would be great if they did produce a T7 though, but I'm not holding my breath, in fact I've got an Echelon T7 windscreen and canopy standing-by, as I might resort to some scratch building!

I dunno whether Trumpeter are seriously considering a 32nd Buccaneer or whether it was just a rumour. I'd love one, but I don't see how it would have much international appeal, but maybe Trumpeter think they could rely on lots of interest from the UK (ok, maybe South Africa too!). Would be a great kit though, as would a Jaguar. I'd really like to see a 32nd Canberra too. Oh well, I guess all will be revealed sooner or later...
