Ian Cooper
Hi everyone I've just started building Italeri's 48th scale Pave Hawk with Eduard's interior and exterior detailing sets. I don't tend to have much luck with etched metal - lack of experience I guess - but it was important to add something to this pretty basic kit. If anybody is aware of any major issues with this particular kit, do let me know before I get properly underway. Thanks! I'll take some "at the start" pictures tomorrow and post ASAP. Cheers Ian Edited March 18, 2011 by Ian Cooper
ZAgocs
If anybody is aware of any major issues with this particular kit, do let me know before I get properly underway. Thanks! Hi Ian, well I've built and painted this kit three times (I mean the same kit - it was stripped and disassembled two times). Got some experience with it I can say. The issues are (or these were the challenges I faced with - and failed at least two times): - large gap between the fuselage and the cabin floor - badly fitting transparent part - the roof of the cockpit (27B) doesn't fit to the cabin ceiling (20B) - tricky engine exhaust assembly, be careful when you glue it to the fuselage - assembly instructions are bad for parts behind the engine exhaust (55B, 56B), check the reference photos - way too thick slide windows - do NOT drill the locating points for the machine guns because those are at the wrong place! - main doors cannot be glued to anything if posed open (I added a locating pin to the door using wire and drilled a little hole to the fuselage to be able to add the door) - decals for the IPs are about 1/72 scale, totally off... It is a pity as otherwise it would be a nice kit. I finally declared mine as a practice run for airbrushing and added spare, incorrect decals. Here you can find the result: Pave Hawk Cheers, Zoli
Ian Cooper
Thanks for sharing your experience with this kit Zoli. Even though you say your MH60 was relegated for airbrush practice, it still looks pretty impressive. I'll see what reference material I can find - I don't have any here for the MH-60 so it'll be a question of finding what I can on the internet. Thanks again. Ian Cooper
So, here's the start of my MH-60G. Some photo-etch work using the Eduard set..... Thanks for looking, Ian
chukw
Looks like you;re doing just fine with that pe- excellent work! Cheers- chuk
Netz
It's best to use a pair of scissors to remove the pe from the frets, I trim away the large frets that will get in the way, the scissors can then be laid flush against the part and cut leaving virtually no stub protruding. I see on your grill all the attachment points from the fret, if you do get some extra material, it can be removed easily with a machinist file. I'll have to take some pictures to better explain. Curt Thanks for the tip, Curt. I'll take your advice on that - it was a problem for me Still lots of PE to do on this so I'll have plenty of opportunity to try the scissors out! I do have some small files but find it tricky holding the small pieces and then filing without bending the PE. Lots to learn, I feel. Ian Cooper
Hooray! My new airbrush has arrived in the post. I've treated myself to an Iwata HP-CS and the first impression is a good one. I've used the Iwata to do some early painting on the interior of the MH-60G and it feels very nice. Now need to get that F105D out again to finish off the paint job that I messed up!!! Ian
Ian Cooper
Here's a short update ... A little work on the cockpit area. I've been looking at some threads under Helicoptor Modelling and have decided to try to replicate a recently updated MH-60G which includes new seats for the gunners in the back. More on that later. So - a start to detailing the back of the pilot/co-pilot seats and scratch building the rear of the central console. Also, the start of scratching the gunner control 'box, in the rear compartment. Cheers Ian
norbert
Hi Ian Nice start, I look forward to see more updates Norbert
Ian Cooper
Thanks Norbert Here is another update. This includes the beginning of the scratchbuild gunner seats and the armoured floor that goes with them. More work to do on the seats yet. The padding needs to be finished more neatly and then belts need to be added before painting. Cheers Ian
CW4 Erick Swanberg
Cut the seat supports for the pilot seats down to about mid way. They dont go up as high. PE detail on the internal Robbie tank is very impressive Erick

I look forward to you popping in again on the thread and offering more advice, seeing as you're the Black Hawk guru! All the best Ian
CW4 Erick Swanberg
Actually hold off on that seat support cutting I was going off on pics of the older style seats my bad, We have 2 styles of seats in the Army those are the newest seats so disregard. Ian Cooper
Small update. A little more work done on the interior, getting the cockpit further along. Here are some pics. One of the gunnery control boxes has been scratchbuilt and finished using a spare Eduard panel. Need to build one for the other side now and get those seats finished. Then there's a whole load of other stuff to do with the interior including some detailing on the ceiling, bags, bits and pieces, blah, blah. This is going to be a long one! Thanks for looking Ian
Ian Cooper
Today I've been adding some detail to the ceiling of the cargo bay. The kit doesn't have much detail at all in this area but the prototype is crammed full of all sorts of stuff. Here a start to it - much more still to do. Ian
blackhawk7
I must have missed this one, it is looking good though! I like the new gunner seats you've made, I was wasn't confident enough to attempt them. Good luck with it, Tom
Ian Cooper
Thanks Tom. Is your HH-60G build (I see on your banner) still going or is it finished now. I'll need to check it out!
Ian Cooper
I've added some detail and colour to the cabin ceiling (roof). Still some more to do on this but I'm quite pleased that it at least makes the ceiling look 'busy'. Cheers Ian
Marlin
Hi Ian. I'm a keen follower of your progress. I intend to use your pic for my Yanshuf 2, from the IDF/AF. I hope that you don't mind that I save your pictures for future reference. Best Regards /Bosse
