B-17 guy
Well, if anyone saw in my build thread that I was going to announce something, here it is! This is for fans of the B-17F (1/48) who want to build a later model, basically more than what is in the revell B-17F memphis belle kit. The kit comes from Koster aero enterprises. Long story short, the kit has a few differant nose options for 1/48 B-17's. The kit is called "B-17F Nose job plus, it contains 7 clear nose cones, 3 of them are for B-17F. All 3 of them are for forward firing .50's, one of those being set up for twin .50's. There are also, 3 G model nose cones, one being the standard type that we see in the box with any of the 1/48 B-17G kits, the next one being the more blunt nosed vega styled nose. And then there is a douglas styled one, which to me look's the same as the the early F model's without gun ports. After this we have the framed nosed cone for a B-17E. Lastly we have the CORRECT bulged cheek windows, they are correctly reversed for the F model's , not G's. And there is an astro dome for the top of the nose. And the E/F top turret. Plus 6 metal MG's, and 2 sections of ammo chutes. I'll shut up now, and show some pics.
B-17 guy
More....
B-17 guy
Still more.. To give you an idea of how the guns that come in the kit look, this one of them with a kit gun from the G kit. They're a bit smaller, so I say they are .30's next to the kit guns. And to give you guys a feel for how these will look on a built model. NOTE: The pic is to show the nose cone ONLY! DO NOT pay attention to the bulged cheeks on this model, they are not representative of what is in the koster kit. If any of you guys want to order this kit from koster, the kit is $18.95. Here is his email: wkoster2@comcast.net I hope you guys enjoy this as much as I will. Jeremy Edited February 12, 2011 by B-17 guy
Steve N
Looks great! I wish someone would do a "multi nose" set like that for the new Revell 1/72 kit. SN
B-17fan
Engines, interiors and other previous aftermarket products have been welcome and needed items, but this product opens doors too long closed to Fortress builders. This raises the Revell kit to the next level and makes it a prime candidate for any later F series aircraft. As an added bonus, this set is reasonably priced and provides the part(s) necessary to correctly configure more than one aircraft. Well done Thank you
mungo1974
All looks very good. As one door opens with new B-17 goodies...another one closes...sigh.
B-17 guy
As one door opens with new B-17 goodies...another one closes...sigh. Huh? Are we losing something?
mungo1974
I can't really say who until the owner makes it public

Kostucha
Agreed. Any news related to the mystery post Mungo, can you please post in this GB for us?
mungo1974
well now its out in the public domain....I hope all you Fortress Freaks stocked up on your Paragon accessories & conversions
100th BG
Well, maybe I am missing something, but how does this help us build a late F? Those cheek positions are for the G. The late F had them in the opposite positions (except the Vega birds, but that's a whole 'nother story!). The single nose gun and astrodome get us to the mid to late production, but not the real late ones. Which of course is what I want to do!!!! 100th BG
Here is a late F, both sides of the same airplane. Note the position of the cheek guns:
mungo1974
I still wish id pushed Neil @ Paragon more to produce the B-17 noses in clear resin we'd talked about on many occasions. It never happened, and now never will...sadly
B-17 guy
Karl, I should have been a bit more clear with my description of the pics. The bulged cheeks on the F that I built, are NOT what's in the koster kit, that's an older build. The purpose of those pics is to show the nose cone with the single .50 mount, that's all! Go back up and look at the bulged cheeks in the pic at the bottom om of post #2. Those ARE the correct bulged cheeks for the later F models. Here, I'll post the pic again: In this pic, the one on the right is the starboard cheek, it's upside down in the pic. The one on the left, is for the port side, middle cheek. So, the koster kit is correct, the B-17F I built is not correct for what the koster kit has. The one I built was an attempt to add the bulged cheeks correctly for the F model that failed. So I used the upper part of the G kit nose with the lower part of the F kit nose and I call it a Vega built B-17F. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. 100th BG
That great to find out, guess Bill is getting more of my money! And we will credit that as an unusual Vega F... :) I see he also did the single nose gun mount that was used on "Miss Quachita" and some others. COOL!! And now that I have gone back and looked at this instructions, I understand. I'm a bit slowwww.... Edited February 12, 2011 by 100th BG
B-17 guy
Lol, karl, yeah, he got some more of mine too. I'm gonna get some more pics up tonight, cant up;oad them right now. I took a couple of quick ones in a rough set up of how they will go on the nose. I gotta go find new decals now, miss ouchita is one I'd like to do, pluss something cool for the one with bulged cheeks. And...I gotta find a nother set of revell F fuselage halves for the nose. B-17 guy
Here, just got these uploaded. Roughly how the cheeks will look.
Kostucha
OOOOOOOohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh..... More and more I'm starting to think of doing an F... perhaps once the stash is complete... I've done all the RCAF/RCN's I've got... I'll do the F. Maybe. That being said... this is looking REALLY good! REALLY GOOD!
HANG THE EXPENSE
Karl, I should have been a bit more clear with my description of the pics. I have waited a long time for this.Christmas has come early.
WymanV
Now if I could just get about a half dozen of those single place deep noses and astrodomes without the rest of that stuff... ;) Ken
a20havoc
How is the quality of the clear pieces? I have some of Kosters b-24 sets and they are excellent. The pics posted here look a little bit hazy. Has anyone given them a dip in future?
