  1. Not sure which way the hammer is going to fall here, whether you have been scammed or not - certainly it seems that others in your exact situation have been. Your ultra-defensive passive aggression is making everyone quite uncomfortable though. The fact of the matter is that these scams occur on eBay quite frequently, and the "sellers" know how to run a scam. For every person like you that will receive a USB cable or other cheap trinket and immediately launch a claim, there are many who won't, and your refund gets written off. The "seller" is the one losing nothing, not the bu
  2. Looks great! I respect a man who puts in the masking time for a checkerboard pattern. Which aircraft will you eventually turn it into? Did you run with the Tamiya Sea Blue and Intermediate Blue?
  3. Hi guys, I'll be building Tamiya's 1/48 F4U-1A, which is a lovely kit to build. Unforunately the kit's decals don't align with what we are trying to achieve in this GB, so I'll have to source some others! I'm looking forward to trying out all new weathering techniques and trying some new products in this build, as well as it being the first time I've used an airbrush. The coarse sand landing strips, heavy traffic and combat fatigue on the aircraft in 1943 mean that there are some really interesting subjects out there. Tamiya's range of 1/48 planes
  4. Hi guys, Bit of a cross-post from the research corner, but didn't get many nibbles. I'm looking for info regarding the weathering and scratching of the wing-root area of the -1A. In their role as an island-hopper workhorse, would the top layer of non-specular sea blue scratched and weathered off to reveal YZC primer underneath? Or would it have flaked off right down to the sheet metal?
  5. Hi guys, I'm looking for info regarding the weathering and scratching of the wing-root area of the -1A. In their role as an island-hopper workhorse, would the top layer of non-specular sea blue scratched and weathered off to reveal YZC primer underneath? Or would it have flaked off right down to the sheet metal? I've built a fairly large reference base, but I haven't found many colour photos. Kind regards, Billy
  6. @admiralcag I have read good things about running it lower than recommended, I will start off at 15 and lower it I reckon. @Cobus It does, but it recommends 15-20... a pretty generic figure. I've heard of people running it as low as 10 and getting good results. @Spectre711 I was lucky enough to pick up a Badger 360, courtesy of a friendly forum member - so can run it as either. I think ideally it's suited to gravity-feed though? Does that sound similar to your experience?
  7. Hi guys, Any idea of the best PSI to spray any of the Alclad range with? Also, am I right in thinking they won't need to be thinned?
  8. Hey Dann, interested in some of these, are you located in Australia? I tried to send a PM but it said you couldn't receive them. Cheers
  9. That SAC camouflage on the B-52 always melts my heart. How many of the BUFF's in vietnam retained that camo?
  10. Hey guys, I'm a bit confused about who's got the most quality tooling for a vietnam-era UH-1. Ideally a D. I know that KH's just came out and is getting great reviews, but is also pretty expensive and in limited supply. Has anyone built one of the larger scales, a 1/35 or a 1/32?
  11. Hey mate @midnightprowler, have you found a copy of the decals you need for sale anywhere?
  12. Hi mate, Firstly, congratulations on having the courage to recognise the impact that alcohol may be having on your body, and then again for exhibiting control. This is a wonderful step in your life and one that your children will really appreciate in the years to come. I'll shoot you a PM with some more relevant stuff, but I think you'll find an overwhelming amount of support from us. Cheers! (With a ginger beer of course)
  13. Further to the Tomcat discussion... how much is the Tamiya F-14A retailing for in other countries? I was astounded to find it on sale at $149.99 AUD ($118.00 USD).
  14. $399 is ridiculous. $39 would have been a far more realistic number, and probably would have gained them more customers.
  15. @dsahling Thanks for your advice. I keep hearing "thin to the consistency of milk" but I have genuinely never noticed how thick milk is! I'll have to have a proper look. How do you guys mix ratios of thinner/paint, do you use an eyedropper or just free pour...? I'm very much on board with the "buy it once, buy it right" mentality so thank you for linking the Harder & Steenbeck. @dnl42 I'm going to need this up and running to have a crack at the upcoming GB's! Just before heading to work yesterday I ran a very thin brush coat of paint over my beautiful panel line weathering
  16. @Thommo don't hold living in the sunshine state against me, I grew up in NSW and feel your pain at Origin time! As for the name, let's hope you never have to find out Thanks for the link, I will check it out. I'm also perusing Gumtree but it's like finding your way through a minefield in the dark. @Kurt H. Thanks for the reply, and for linking the video. I watched it and was able to learn a lot. . That's the one I saw in-store, obviously it's nowhere near top-calibre but perhaps it could still do a few jobs?
  17. Am slowly realising there is no way I can reach the standard of the builds on here unless I am airbrushing. You don't get to employ any of the fun techniques and it looks like a solid block of colour at the end if you use a brush, and disheartening when my weathering and panel line washing just doesn't hold up. What's the cheapest set-up I could run to get reasonable results? Does anyone have any spare parts they're willing to send me that they no longer use? I saw a Tamiya airbrushing set in a hobby shop that i've never seen before, it was around $140, is that all
  18. Thanks Darren and PnP. Has the quality of Tamiya moulding greatly increased in the last few years? Or is it just a new tooling on this particular Tomcat? When I took a sabbatical from the hobby (2007-now) they were always good but not lightyears ahead.
  19. Hi gang, I've just wondering if you have any thoughts on a group post, going through and stating anything you've been able to substitute for anything else in the past. Some examples; Rather than buying Tamiya ultra fine sandpaper, I can buy an enormous sheet of 1200 grit for 94c at the hardware store. Rather than buying expensive sanding blocks, wrap your sand paper around a nail file and voilâ. Rather than using super fine tweezers to position small parts, you can use a toothpick with a small ball of bluetack. I think it may also be possible to use a syrin
  20. Wow if it's that good I'll have to give it a shot. Thanks for the recommendation guys. Are there currently any aftermarket goodies out for it, or being so new they're on the way?
  21. Hey mate, in what ways does the new Tamiya tooling dominate? I think for us in Australia it would come at an expensive price, ~$130, so is a better investment some PE and a slightly inferior kit?
  22. Mate that's such a shame to hear that your images won't get the chance to be shared, but I understand. I'm sure as we speak there's a workaround being created, maybe from a more computer engineering forum. Or can we (as ARC) ask persmission to allow hot linking to the website for a day, while we back everything post-2017 up to an independent server? I don't think that's unreasonable? As it stands, if there's nothing at all we can do, we're an absolute shell of a "resource centre"!
  23. I'd love to build a 1/48 F-14 for this, the things just oozes attitude and the colourful squad insignia already have my mouth salivating. Problem being, I don't know which F-14 kit to pick up! I also wouldn't mind doing a VF-111 Phantom, I've always had a soft spot for the Sundowners. Can you guys think of anything other than those mentioned above that might have SEA camo from the Nam era?
