  1. I do some stuff with the Blues every year during winter training, so I'm up close to the aircraft. Glossy, but not over the top. I wouldn't go too heavy on the gloss coat. You can see here, shiny, but not overly glossy.
  2. Anyone have detailed shots of the wingtip modifications on the USAF QF-4s? I never thought to get those when I've seen them in person.
  3. I'm in with a QRF-4C from the Italeri RF-4C kit. Beauty is, I don't need decals for this particular jet.
  4. The Air Force has said they'd like to have more F-15Es, and F-16E/Fs, but the latter is a LockMart product, and that's never going to happen.
  5. Looking for some 1/72 USAF Low Vis tail codes for a RF-4C in the Hill scheme. Was thinking of making it myself, but was wondering if there was a sheet out there. All I really need is AF 69-372.
  6. The convict crews don't fly in the helicopters. LACoFD has their own paid "fly" crews which are very similar to USFS "Hotshot" crews. The reason the LACoFD helos are black yellow and white, is in the 70s, they needed to buy a helicopter, and found a used Huey being sold by a logging company. It was painted black yellow and white, (A little different scheme from the updated style on today's helos). It helped differentiate the county colors from the LAFD helicopters, and it stuck.
  7. 10 points if anyone can tell me why the LACoFD birds are yellow white and black.
  8. The future is all UAVs. This is Boeing trying desperately to save jobs. Not a bad idea, but it's probably going to end up being a bolt-on kit to modify existing airframes.
  9. Just purchased my first airliner model (After years and years of military stuff, time for a break) It's a DC-9 in KLM colors, but the instructions call for paint numbers that I have no idea what they are. Just wondering what the colors for the KLM scheme would be. (FYI, I like shooting MM Acrylic, so any advice in that line of paint would be very helpful.)
  10. Interesting. I've just seen the jet category at our little show dwindle over the past couple years while other categories have remained steady, if not flourished. The lowrider/custom division is always well represented as they is a very active club in the area. (They even have T-shirts. Pretty cool). It's funny, a lot of people were buying jet after jet in the swap meet area, but I guess props rule out in the contest. Indeed, some of it may be the economy, although with the stashes many of us have, there's modeling for years sitting in the closet. And while the overall numbers are down I'd
  11. Last weekend at the annual Modelfest in Ventura, CA, of all the models on display, there were only 4 fighter jets on display, 1 1/48th F-16, 1, F-4E, and 3 1/72nd models, 2 Jaguars and a F-4F. There wasn't a lack of models in other popular categories, plenty of cars, figurines, armor and at least 25 single engine prop warbirds. But practically nothing when it came to modern jet fighters. The three 1/72 jets not only were from the same modeler, but barely squeaked in under the cutoff time for judging. I've seen the decline in modern jet fighter models in the past few years at a few shows,
  12. Trying to build a rear interior for the Hasegawa P-3, and was hoping to find a couple extra seats to use. Anyone have extras they don't need?
  13. So, after lamenting the fact that there are no decals available in 1/72 for the VFC-111 F-5F, I have decided to try and paint the tail. But, that leaves the sharkmouth issue. I figure I can custom print the lettering, but I'm at a loss for the sharkmouth. So my questions: A: Has anyone painted the tail in 1/72? B: What about the sharkmouth? Anything that will suffice? C: Anyone know the FS for the three tone camo?
  14. That's an actual United States Air Force QF-4 at this year's Nellis AFB airshow.
  15. Cool thing is, I only shot these a couple weeks ago...
  16. I just took the Boeing tour a few months back. The ANA painted 787 #2 is NOT going to be delivered to ANA, nor was it ever planned to be. It was painted as ANA in honor of ANA being the first customer of the 787, and has been since it rolled off the line. 787 #7, which is the first production plane, will be ANA's first dreamliner.
  17. Nellis F-15C 65th Aggressor Squadron
  18. We've been getting a lot of F/A-18s through Long Beach on weekends lately to watch football... err... get fuel. Raider 316. This is the XO, down to Long Beach to visit family. Great way to commute.
  19. Tomcats used to do it during combat sorties as well.
  20. This AF makes the "dirty" one look factory fresh.
  21. Even though I work in TV News, I like to shoot news stills away from work
  22. I see we're back to the cheap-knockoff copies of Western aircraft
  23. That's where I put it off to the side and moved onto something else. The nacelles are brutal. Will definitely remember the trick with the shims.
