  1. G'day Jennings, Thanks for the reply. I do have the rest of the Academy kit and I had thought about using the Academy kit as a template to locate the missile pylons for the Revell kit but it seemed a little dodgy. What if Academy had made got the position wrong? (Airfix made this mistake with their external tank location in their 1/72 kits!)so I wanted to be sure. The last pic in your post is very helpful but unfortunately raises another question. The Avon and F-86E(?) above picture the missile pylon fitted directly to the wing hard point using a pylon similar to the one supplied in the A
  2. 'Kay, So it looks like I did not get my research correct, thank you very much gentlemen for setting me straight! Now that we have established that the HAF F-86D's had the short span, slatted wing, what can you guys tell me about the missile pylons and rails? cheers, Pappy
  3. G'day people, I am looking to build a 1/48 F-86D soon. I want to build a HAF (Greek) F-86D. I am planning on using the later version of the Revell kit (with the parachute housing) as the pictures I have seen of HAF F-86D's have this feature. I believe that the F-86D shared its wing with the F-86F-40 (slats, extended chord) and I have seen pics of HAF F-86D's loaded with a pair of AIM-9B's on the inner pylons. My questions are: Were the missile pylons the same as those used on other Sabres ? I plan on using a pair of pylons from the Academy 1/48 F-86E kit.I may need to modify them to fit b
  4. Thanks very much fellas. Most of the FM kits include a figure, some more than one. This kit came with both the TIE pilot and the commander figure, cheers, Pappy
  5. Thanks very much fellas, I am glad you like it, cheers Pappy
  6. G'day people, I have just completed this one. I started it last year and most of it was completed over a couple of nights but for one reason or another I never got around to finishing it off. \ Paint was mostly Gunze acrylics but the details were picked out with Humbrol enamels. I used some artists oils for the wash and drybrushing, and this allows all that lovely detail to pop out cheers, Pappy
  7. G'day fellas, Thanks for the nice comments. You are both correct gentlemen, the walkway lines should not be there. I followed the instructions and added the walkways, which was a mistake. I don't think it really detracts from the kit, but it is an error. The two antennas mounted on the intake sides also look a little undersized to me, but I can live with it. I would like to build a 1/48 scale version one day, so this was a test build. The camo was sprayed freehand, but a few areas were quite tricky, notably around the wing roots where there are lots of funny angles, so there were a few touch
  8. G'day people, I have just finished this little guy. I built it for my club's F-16 build challenge. The turned brass pitot and alpha probes are aftermarket as well. The kit includes a pair of AIM-9's but the details were a little chunky so I swapped the kit supplied one for a better item from Hasegawa's weapon sets, which also supplied the TACTS pod. The driver received some seat harnesses but apart from a re-positioned head was otherwise stock. I kept the weathering pretty light as these birds looked pretty well maintained. Most of the grime was limited to the lower fuselage aft
  9. Looking really nice, If you can be bothered, RAAF Supers have black seat covers(not green), but your seats are looking very nice all the same, cheers, Pappy
  10. You could also fit an MXU-648 luggage pod. These are the converted NAPALM cannisters, conical fairings at either end with an access door on the L/H side, cheers, Pappy
  11. G'day Aaron, ' I see what you mean but I think it may be an optical illusion. The vertical tails are depicted 'relaxed'(pivoted outwards), perhaps this changes the angle of the tail marking as perceived by the viewer?
  12. I think you are looking at a cargo pod, look here: http://airspeed.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/Cargo_Pod.pdf cheers, Pappy
  13. G'day AAron, I guess that kinda puts the final nail in the coffin. The KH Hellfires are modular, KH supply 8 x one piece bodies and 2 x nose types. You get enough of each nose to make 8 missiles. I already glued 4 x "L" noses so I will only fit 2 per rack. I will still make up the "L" just for the hell of it, I also have a few Apaches D's to do so they won't go to waste. The non "L" noses are pretty bland. They would be okay for inert rounds but there is no lens detail at all, not even a scribed line to delineate the seeker. It is a pretty poor effort IMHO. That was one of the main reasons
  14. G'day Phil, Outstanding answer. It looks like I can mix my missiles then. Shame the "L" is not cleared, I don't know why it was included in the kit, perhaps it will be evaluated and cleared at a later time, thanks very much, Pappy
  15. G'day Jari, Very cool and exactly what I needed, cheers, Pappy
  16. G'day people, I figured this was the best place to seek out the knowledge of the Hellfire 'experten' I am in the middle of building Kittyhawks 1/48 AH-1Z "Viper" http://www.zone-five.net/showthread.php?t=29021 and want to hand some Hellfires off the racks. I have a few questions. For clarity, when I say launcher, I mean the whole assembly (i.e 4 x rails), not just a single rail. If different flavoured rounds are carried (say a mix of AGM-114L and K/K-2's), can they be fitted to the same launcher (station) ?If only a partial load is fitted (say 2 rounds instead of the full 4) to a launche
  17. G'day people, I am getting close to the painting stage and would like to know what the correct colours used for the AH-1Z are. I do not trust the Kittyhawk colour call outs. They recommend FS36495 lower (seems right) with medium sea grey upper(??) and FS36375 for the gun turret(??) cheers, Pappy
  18. I am looking forward to the UH-1Y, and I am currently working on their AH-1Z http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234978396-148-kittybhawk-ah-1z/ I note that it looks like the r/h engine panels are separate to display the r/h engine, but the pics only show the left engine. KH goofed with the AH-1Z kit and have provided a pair of engines that are a mirror image of each other. The left engine is correct. I suspect that they have carried this error over into their UH-1Y kit, but I really hope that I am wrong, cheers, Pappy
  19. G'day Zoli, Fantastic skills on display, respect! Just a quick note, I noticed this picture The Superhornet (E/F) does not retain the speed brake of the earlier F/A-18A/B/C/D, instead using a combination of auxiliary speed brakes (located in the LEX) and rudder toe-in. The Italeri "speed brake" part should be glued in. Apologies if you already know this, cheers, Pappy
  20. Ooops sorry double post! Pappy
  21. Mad skillz Mr B! A great example of a stock cockpit that already has ample detail painted up very nicely. It really just needs some seat belts. I am looking forward to seeing how the rest will turn out, cheers, Pappy
  22. G'day people, I have managed to get back to the bench and do a little more work on project Gobby. The position of the rear GBU-27 tail arming lanyard position for the right hand bomb kept gnawing at me. As depicted in the kit stores, both of the bombs are identical. the problem I had was that this means that there would be very little room for the armourers to fit the rear lanyard on the right hand bomb as the weapons bay door would restrict access. There is a picture (page 34) in the Squadron Signal F-1117A Walkaround monograph that depicts a GBU-27 being walked over to the jet to be loaded
  23. Great work Maurizio, your paint work is very crisp and clean, cheers, Pappy
  24. G'day people, I am looking for a photo of the left side Kfir C-2 avionics bay. The one I want is the second panel from the front on the left hand side (the rectangle shaped one) . Also, what colour would a live Python 3 be painted? I am thinking all over white with some sort of bands to denote a live warhead and rocket motor section, cheers, Papp
