  1. Hi Stanton, great job on the Hotel. I'm also a retired vet who flew with HCS-5. I'm a plank owner when the Firehawks first stood up back in 1989. My question is are you doing an early variant or the much more capable later variant. And have you decided which Squadron your going to represent? Here are a few shots I took when we returned from Desert Storm, April 1991. Image of the tail fold. Rotor head from AC/301 during a phase "D", as directed by COMHELWINGRES. For inspection shortly after our return. Strike a pose AC/301 as it goes through it's maintenance "D" phase cyc
  2. You know in high school it was practice everyday before that big game on Friday night, practice practice practice! Just as it was in the squadron, Tac flight, Fam flights etc, all the training day in and day out. So when the bell rung it was game time, war time, we had do it right or lose the game or the battle. Well as it is in life, it is in our hobby, I'm not AMS as much as others, though I try to be historically accurate. Still it is a replica of the real thing that flew or took part in history. So after a good nights sleep, a great message at church very inspirational on this Labor day
  3. Airbrushed Polly Scale Lt Italian Blue Grey 1st. Using my tested and trusty Paasche H single action airbrush. Let it set overnight, masked off the leading of the wings and each side of the radiator. This scheme has a normal so to speak lower blue grey under surface instead of the wraparound Tan under the nose and tail with only the wings being blue/grey, that some Veltro's will appear in. Then with that step done, airbrushed a mix of 80% Aeromaster SEA Tan(FS30219) 20% Polly Scale Tan Special to give it the Italian Lt Hazel finish, at first it looked to dark. Then as it dried it loo
  4. With the seam work done. Installed the radiator under the fuselage. And some other minor clean up of the airframe. We are ready to go ahead and pre shade. Using MM Flat Black acrylic, I think I will use enamel next time as I was all over the place with the process. Took longer as expected, not as crisp as I would like it. A little better job on the A-7's using the same MM Flat Black. Will see how it looks once I start laying the camo, starting with the Blue Grey. Getting there and soon will attempt the smoke ring mottling. Still practicing the technique, I think I can
  5. Today I will finish adding the detail bits to the airframe. Oil coolers and supercharger as well as the windshield and temporarily attaching the canopy for painting. The finer detail pieces such as the pitot tube, antennas etc will be attached at a latter stage of the build. No matter how careful I always break something, falls off and disappears in the concrete jungle. Canopy masked and painted MM Interior Green. Final clean up of the seams, leading edges of the wings. Easy cleanup on the seams really, just some adjustments around the wing roots and under the fuselage where the w
  6. Thank you, but I will try attempt it with the air brush 1st before I will get the decals. Just can't see spending over 15.00 on those as yet. I would like to try my skill free handed. I have done similar schemes on a BF-110 and a Fw-190, they can be difficult, just a lot of patience, and no caffeine! Chuck Fly Navy
  7. Thank you Istvan, it has been smooth sailing so far, just the normal expected building issues. Probably more me than the kit though. Really nice to build something that is not so intense. Chuck Fly Navy
  8. Today we will start on adding the tailplanes and wings to the airframe. Also the cowl panel and other bits as well. The gun port cowl panel had a little fitting issue up towards the nose and the RH side which will need a little filler. Also will need to file the back edge down to be more flushed with the fuselage as well. After installing the wings, had a little issue at the back edge that will need to be addressed once I start going over the repairs that need to be done before final prep. Nasty gap here at the LH rear edge. As well as the RH rear edge to fuselage seam. Nothi
  9. It has been a long time my friend. You have returned with a bang with a great looking Apache. Hope life has been good to you. Really good to see ya. It's amazing how much we pick up over the years when we do a model a 2nd time around. And I agree with you on doing the research as I have learned with the Veltro I'm currently working on. Take good care. Chuck Fly Navy
  10. Today we start with the cockpit, Hase's parts are not bad out of the box, but having the TD resin set and Eduards zoom painted set. I used the TD floor and side panels, and Eduards PE Instrument panel. Also the PE to enhance the details on the resin. I used the kit seat instead of the resin seat, only that the seatbelts looked more realistic than the moulded ones on the seat. Using MM Interior Green (acrylic) to paint the interior. Black for the consoles and panels. The seat was painted MM Steel. Silver for the control stick topped off w/gloss black for the grip. Using a silver pencil to hi
  11. Oh I have but didn't know they were still available. Very interesting to know that they are. The Mike Grant set look a little bit more refined than the Tauro set. And both are around the same price. Thanks for the heads up on these Steve. Chuck Fly Navy
  12. Ian you pretty much captured the weathered look of A Navy fighter as it operates at sea. And yeah it is much larger than I thought it was. It has been awhile since I have since I have seen a real Demon, which I believe it was at the Pima Air Museum in Tucson. Can't think of one here in So Cal. that may be on display. Maybe in San Diego. Any way, I'm going to have to get one of these. Outstanding job Ian. Chuck Fly Navy
  13. The images don't show it unless you have let say an F-4 to compare. But that Demon is much larger than you think it may be. And as Pinky remarked, I would love to get this kit. Being that Navy is what I primarily build in this scale. But looks great Ian. Can't wait to see it when it's completed. Chuck Fly Navy
  14. Good point, about the same size also. And thanks for the encouragement as when that time comes to airbrush those squiggles. Chuck Fly Navy
  15. Jumping into this build using Hasegawas excellent Veltro was long in coming. My 2nd attempt at building the Italian fighter. Now I do have the Tauro kit which is quite detailed but a tough build, as I shelved quite awhile ago. So something a little simpler but neat kit is Hase's offering. I will attempt the Nocciola Chiaro 4 (Lt Hazel Nut), mottled Verde Oliva Scuro 2 (Dk Olive 2) over Grigio Azzurro Chiaro (Lt Blue Gray). Looking forward to attempt the Olive Green Squiggle pattern. This will be fun (RIGHT! ). I will use Polly Scale acrylic Italian Lt Blue Gray (FS636307), a
  16. Time does seem to fly lately. I think I'm #70. 9 years. Some years didn't post much as other things were going on such as life. But I frequent ARC more now that things have settled down, I have all my kits in one place no longer in storage. The work bench up and running so fun to start building again. Chuck Fly Navy
  17. Great job on the '101. I have the original boxing of this kit when it 1st was release back in the early 90's while living in Connecticut. So around '92. Been wanting to build it, but have lost the clear sprue. It is a very nice kit, and been searching for the clear parts for over 10 years. Been running that request every few months on the ARC search section over the years. Cant wait to see the finished model. Chuck Fly Navy
  18. Everything has been said that describes how amazing your B-58 looks. I don't know what else to say but just admire an amazing aircraft the B-58 was and still is. Chuck Fly Navy
  19. What an excellent subject. I have one of the A/M B-25's put aside to build as a PBJ. So I will watch this build with extreme interest. And definitely will be taking notes. And also thanks for the history of the USMC Mitchell. Chuck Fly Navy

  21. Will come in with a Hasegawa Hien Tony in 48th scale. Next with a Fujimi Val also in 48th scale. And if time permits really would like to do something New Zealand or Aussie maybe a Corsair or Hellcat. Will play it by ear. Nice to do some PTO warbirds. Or might consider a Medium bomber in 72nd scale let see how I progress with the first couple of builds. Chuck Fly Navy
