LinerLover
Hi gents ! Well, I hope this thread attracts more members than this one :) http://www.arcforums.com/forums/air/index....howtopic=119599 :D I just got myself Academy's 1/48 Mig-29 Fulcrum kit (Ukraine Flight Demo Team release, ref. 2128). Yep, it sure looks cool, nice moulding quality, well defined small parts, exquisite recessed details, thin clear parts, reasonnably detailed kit but... is it accurate ? I attempted a search and found many interesting threads regarding aftermarket stuff (good to know about all these resin sets from Aires/Neomega) but nothing serious about the accuracy. Should I get Monogram's kit instead ? Any information mostly appreciated Thanking you in advance. Best regards, Stéphane
pollie
Get a nose from Pisco! Besides that it looks reasonably accurate, except for the cockpit of course. Could do with some scratchbuilding or an aftermarket cockpit set there. The fit of the front fuselage to the back isn´t all that though, as I recently experienced...... dreammh
Like pollie said, you definitely want a new nose and cockpit. Of course you can get away with a closed canopy. But no way I can live with that nose.
LinerLover
Woah, 2 replies in less than 10 minutes, THANK YOU both very much ! Yes, as of what I saw here in ARC, resin cockpit (though the stock plastic one look okay-ish) and can sets are a must and I forgot about the Pisco nose which I will obviously get. I plan doing mine in a rather depressing c/s, the Royal Malaysian Air Force's ones http://www.airliners.net/open.file/0912677/M/ ... don't ask why (kayyy, I'm half Malay :) ) Thanks again. Best regards, Stéphane
habu2
Should I get Monogram's kit instead ? Absolutely not. The Monogram MiG-29 kit has so many inaccuracies we could write a book.... :)
Will2K65
Would recommend some aftermarket exhaust nozzles myself - the problems with removing the sprue 'cross' from *inside* the kit nozzles cleanly without butchering them are the biggest headache of the whole build IMHO! jaydar
Look at this http://forums.airforce.ru/showthread.php?t=761and you will understand =) Do you know which pit that was? The modeler did an excellent job on the finishing. Thanks, joe.
RedStar
Do NOT follow the kit instructions - build it top and bottom, not front and back and you'll save a lot of headaches in the filling and sanding department! Paul
RedStar
Look at this http://forums.airforce.ru/showthread.php?t=761and you will understand =) Wonderful work - I just wish my college Russian was better, as I'm betting there are some useful notes in there for the project that I'm just getting started on. Also need some new decals for that bird - great schemes/pictures in the latest Yefim Gordon HC book on the subject! Finally - and in answer to another post, I believe that the cockpit is NeOmega from what I can tell from the pictures. It's very good, I like the AiRes pit a little better, but that's just personal taste. Paul
Tomcat Fan
aires Exhaust nozzles + aires c-pit works great. no trimming needed in my set. it went in like a glove .
brahio
Do you know which pit that was? That was Neomega cockpit Regards, Yury
kuman
I plan doing mine in a rather depressing c/s, the Royal Malaysian Air Force's ones http://www.airliners.net/open.file/0912677/M/ ... don't ask why (kayyy, I'm half Malay :) )Thanks again. Best regards, Stéphane so which decal are going to use with that TUDM MIG-29N? i got mine from ScaleNutz and also there another one by VFA (IIRC)... Do NOT follow the kit instructions - build it top and bottom, not front and back and you'll save a lot of headaches in the filling and sanding department!Paul .. yup.. what Paul said.... even with that "corrected" step still need quite a few sessions of putty+sanding kuman Edited May 8, 2007 by kuman
