The Madhatter
just quickly - is it ok to thin Testors Dullcoate using Tamiya Lacquer thinner or do you have to use the Testors one? cheers
SoarinSukhoi
From what I've heard, Tamiya lacquer thinner is a bit different than your normal kind. You would probably be best using Testor's or a hardware store brand.

The Madhatter
awesome - thanks guys! I ended up buying the Testors Lacquer Thinner. I only had the Tamiya stuff on hand at the time and wasn't sure whether I really needed the right matching product, and seeing as they don't seem compatible I got the Testors stuff (plus it was only $5.00) thanks again for your help guys MH
DutyCat
Yes, I have used regular "department store" brands for years and never had a problem. Testors Dullcoat gives the smoothest flat surface I have ever seen. Some have claimed that their coatings can yellow over time, but I have never seen it and I have been using it for 20 years at least. I think gloss white paint will always eventually yellow, so that may be what folks are seeing and mistaking it for the Testors yellowing. balls47
Ditto on the lacquer thinner from WalMart, Lowes, etc.
