pminer
Guys, I have an old Revell 1/144 C-5A. Great kit...but I busted the windscreen. To find a replacement is...well...practically impossible. $100.00 bucks or more for a new kit...just for the windscreen. Anybody make a replacement set for the 1/144 C-5? Or...you guys have any ideas how to fix / replace? Thanks, Paul
Jennings
Afraid you're on your own. But IIRC, aren't the window/windshield panels on a C-5 all flat? If so, they should be easy enough to make from some clear styrene out of a CD jewel case.
ikar
Pretty flat. That's as close as I've got for photos.
Falcon053
Yes, they are just flat panel windows. I can't remember, but doesn't the Draw decal sheet that gives you a decal for the front windscreen???
Teeradej
My C-5 came with no windows... I used evergreen clear styrene on my current slow project with some patience to avoid scratch marks by doubled Masking tape to both size of clear sheet before cutting to shape and size required for each cockpit aperture, removing tape and carefully applied tamiya thin cement on installation which was a bit fiddly. Some window pane placed successfully within a single session while some had to repeated multiple time due to too much oversize/undersize pieces, a pane fell inside and/or glue spillage. Thought window decal provided in Draw Decal C-5 sheet definitely would be much easier and give sharper finish especially at this such small scale but I just did not like solid black look for this quite prominent area. Here is mine, windows were already masked and black surfacing coated. For the rest of the A/C I will use circular window decals surely!
ikar
Does your C-5 kit still have the incorrect flat sided landing gear instead of the round ?

I damaged a clear canopy & Revell replaced it free of charge.
Grey Ghost 531
I have that model in the old Otaki boxing. I don't believe it came with a clear part for the windscreen, either. If it did, I didn't use it, I just made the dividers out of Evergreen strip and used Micro Kristal Klear to fill in the glass. Forgive the dust, it's at least 20 years old. pminer
Have you tried contacting Revell directly for a replacement - http://www.revell.com/support/index.html. But thanks...
Jennings
Revell doesn't have the molds. They purchased bagged shots (almost 30 years ago) and put them in their box. And Revell today is a completely different company from what it was in 1988. Before he retired, Al Trendle (owner and founder of Minicraft) told me he had scoured the entire world to try to find who had the C-5 molds so he could buy bagged shots. After talking to everyone he knew in the industry, he was never able to locate the tooling. It's undoubtedly sitting in a warehouse somewhere, but whoever has control of it doesn't know what they have. And Al knew *everybody* in the industry.
Hajo L.
The never-ending rumor is that the molds sunk together with a container that went overboard from a freighter while beeing ferried over the ocean. HAJO
Jennings
As far as I'm aware, that is hogwash. That rumor was around before the last boxing of the kit by Testors in the 1990s. It tends to get conflated with the *fact* that the Otaki 1/144 L-1011 molds *were* dumped off a dock into Tokyo Bay. That came directly to Al Trendle from a source who had worked for Otaki at the time they went under. And it explains why the Otaki L-1011 has never once been reissued by anybody. ikar
Maybe it's time somebody should start a new kit, but I'm not holding my breath. They probably will have a new one right after I die. Just my luck.
