What I find fascinating is the EA-6A, EA-6B and KA-6D have aircraft model stenciled in tiny lettering on the back. But the A-6E lacks the model stenciling. Like you need someone to tell you yours're crawling into an EA-6A??? Maybe if another A-6/EA-6A/B/KA6D sheet comes out.... Enjoy, Bryan Fantastic! I have my HobbyBoss A-6E scheme, I think. Nothing that can’t be done with a good laser printer. Interestingly the weapons officier name on the right side of 505 reads MAJ C PENNEY while Major is not a Navy rank. Some exchange Marines or USAF fellow? Edited March 7 by The Arrowhead

Tracy White
Not really wanting to be thread police here, but the F-16 info should really be in its own thread if only so it's easier to find in the future (as opposed to being buried in a thread about exterior markings for potential decals sheets. All total I have a tad over 42,000 shots from the museum. In addition to my own shots... Not entirely sure what unit flew A-6A_149948 the rest of the CAMO A-6's are from VA-65 and I believe the Constellation. They are almost devoid of markings, in the background ate A-4 and RA-5C in similar camo. The first A-6 is interestingly using a grey for the undersides, I was not aware of that particular combination. CTA already have a sheet out with a compilation of Connie's camoed planes, including a couple of each airframes for A-1s, A-4s, A-5s, A-6s and F-4s.

BWDenver
Love Sky Scooters! These birds and Marines got to play in the snow and cold in northern Ill in February. A-4M 159785, 158160, 159489, 158164 & TA-4J 163023 VMA-133 NAS-Alameda shot at Glenview 02-17-90 Miserable WX, first time I've seen my windscreen covered in ice as we were doing a holding pattern. I looked up from the instruments got a surprise. I suggested to the IFE we dispense with the IFR and try to find some warmer air, before we fell out of the sky....... He had actually not really noticed the ice, and agreed... Still don't know how he missed it! Bryan Edited March 10 by BWDenver
Tracy White
That A-4M would look quite nice next to my Monogram OA-4M....
Darren Roberts
I'm fascinated by how different the colors are in those last two pictures, yet they were taken at the same time. It proves once again that going off of pictures to get correct colors can be difficult at best.

They were shot with Kodachrome 64, within 20 minutes of each other. Then dupped with a Canon 5D Mk 2. The grey was picking up a bit of blue from the sky, which is probably why they went with gray to begin with. Even if I balanced for the snow, the bird is still on the cool side. While the shots of the bird's side on are a bit more neutral. This is probably one of the reasons I don't get into arguments with people when they say: "I painted it from a picture!" My degree is in Commercial photography, and I spent a lot of time in the dark room. Color with gray anything can be a nightmare... Cheers! Bryan

Ahhh, no they weren't.... They were shot within 20 - 30 minutes of each other. The difference is the angle the shot was taken from. In the shot in question, I'm was on a work stand, or maybe on top of a truck, and looking down at the bird... the birds taxiing in were pointed to the S-SW. The other shots were parked pointing to the SE. 8164 was actually across the ramp and pointed at 9489. I was shooting the parked birds when the others came in from a flight. Again, as Darran pointed out, matching paint from a photo can be a real exercise in science "fixation"! Cheers, Bryan
BWDenver
I went to the Movie Midway in parker CO and sat next to two odder gens and their wives. We got to talking and I found out the guy next to me was Lee Croissant. An Air Force EC-47 and Cargo driver. And a fantastic phtog! VMA(AW)-225 155623, delivered in 1968 and went to war. I love A-6's and this one especially. You have to love the chicken tracks going up the tail! I think the shots were taken in Da Nang in S Viet Nam, possibly in 1969. Finally SOC in 2000. Cheers Bryan Edited March 11 by BWDenver
BWDenver
Love early F-4’s F4H-1 150440, redesignated as F-4B-13-MC in 1962. Later upgraded to an F-4N. Scrapped in 2004. It was assigned to VX-4 as SF-5 1970 – 1973. Modelers should note the bird still has the MB Mk.H5 ballistic seats. F-4J, 153087, the 18th J, with a load of test Sparrows. Both birds early in their careers, and showing signs of nice clean finishes. 153087 was SOC 6-1970. Not sure when this was taken, and if the F-4J’s were delivered with MB Mk.H7 rocket seats or not. The Upgrade for the Mk.H7 was issued in April 1968, so it’s possible this bird flew with a Mk.H5 ballistic seat. Any definitive info would be nice! More shots from the National Museum of Naval Aviation
BWDenver
A few more F-4's F-4N 151471 NK-210 VF-21 Coral-Sea, 1972 – 1973. lots of spot painting. F-4N 150489 NK-201 Coral Sea with what appears to be a CHAF pod exposed as it taxied. The F-4N’s had Mk.H7 seats. F-4J, 158378 NE-200 VF-21, Ranger fairly clean bird F-4B 149474, VF-32, AB-211 1972. Mk.H7 seats. Eventually transferred to Miramar as a ground trainer.
The Arrowhead
Gotta love those late F-4Ns ! Any shots of VF-21 / VF-154 low-viz birds from last cruise off CORAL SEA ?

BWDenver
Bit of a rare bird. F-4G 150642 NJ-111 VF-121 Taken 1964. Downgraded to F-4B 10-66. Upgraded to F-4N 10-73 SOC 2 22-84 At North Island. National Museum of Naval Aviation shot

BWDenver
Sometimes the background is more interesting that the subject. In this case on the O-2's in the background, was not aware the Navy flew those in any capacity. It would be a nightmare to paint, but an eye opener. BWDenver
And another one with a decidedly small pilot... Should you ever decide to do an Aggressor/Adversary A-4 sheet to complement the E/F sheet you did. I would love to get markings for this bird. A-4E 152070 AD-13 VF-45 1992-94 Possibly at Key West National Museum of Naval Aviation record No A-1652, 1669, 1651
BWDenver
I know the focus of Cacal are mostly Post WW II jets, but these are just strange enough to may be of interest... Only one has a BuNo, and that one doesn't seem to be right. All red with interesting wing tips. There are some sort of markings on the upper tails bot the row of birds, but can't make it out. Not that up on F6F's... Edited March 13 by BWDenver

Darren Roberts
Holy cow! This is like the magic reference locker that some decal manufacturers refer to. What great shots! BTW, both the Adversary A-4's were covered by Fight's On decals. I did both of them. Painting was so much fun...NOT!
