I think the Tamiya F-35 has taken that mantle.

That kit is so good, that if one buys kit and while bring it home, shake a little bit box, there is a posability that kit comes out of the box ready for paint 🙂 Ok I am joking, but it is almost like that. And yes, I think that she is at the first place.

Then you’re doing something wrong.  Mine went together perfectly.  I used basically zero putty anywhere on it.

Regarding the 2022 F-16 tooled kit, mine was a total dumpster fire as far as fit.  I won't completely rehash all my other commentary and photos posted on ARC, you can look that up yourself.  But the key flaws with the kit are:

  • It's tooled as a block 52 plane.....anything else requires tons of panel line rework and other airframe mods
  • The Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM) die for the single seat upper fuselage "cut" too deep, resulting in a ~0.4MM step at the wing root.  The two seater fuselage doesn't have this problem.
  • The "A" early vertical tail has the same shape issues as the original tooling.
  • Weak panel lines
  • Fit issues everywhere, warped parts, cupping on some parts resulting from mold extraction before the plastic was cooled enough.

I've also built the Tamiya kit.  Despite it's age, it's far superior to the Kinetic 2022 kit.

You’re talking about the 2014 Kinetic F-16s, not the newly tooled ones.  The F-16A I’m building from the new MLU kit is every bit as good as the Tamiya kit.

Illu - the new Kinetic F-16 kit are indeed as potez says wrong, no matter what version you try to build. The MLU has so many omissions, due to the fact that Kinetic uses the same sprues for all versions. Just the shape of the base of the fin/ parapack is a no-no. The list for the errors just goes on.

But that goes for us nit-pickers - the most important part of this hobby is having fun. But since the topic here is the best jet kit I think it fair to give a qualified opinion on the F-16. Flew it for 17 years - miss it every day!

My choice is the Tamiya 1/48 F-84G - superb! Runner up - no surprise  -Tamiya 1/48 F-16C. Backdated with Kasl MLU update set (and rescribing the panels ++). Really looking forward to MiniBase F-16A Block 20. It will take som work to make it an MLU, but the CAD picturtes look wonderful!

Check Six and build something!

Would Best Out Of Box be BOOB ???

Boob, as in the female breast, Habu?  Or haven't you ever seen a nude one in your life before? *shudders*

Well, thought that the 1/48 Flankers by GWH were the best out of box jets (yes, Habu; boob). But think again; it seems they need resin seats, undercarriage legs, wheels and exhausts for starters.

🙂 What about GWH series F-15?I never build one.

Hi Dragan,

They're quite good kits overall. It's only that there's always a very knowledgeable modeller (such as Yufei Mao), who will find serious inaccuracies on it, like it was the case with the wrong shape of the windshield and canopy on every F-15 kit by GWH.

I was blessed with having gotten one of his clear resin correction sets for my C kit. Unfortunately, the clear resin yellowed with time. Now the clear pieces on it look tinted like those in the F-16s or Su-27s.

Then again, the shape of the intake trunks are pure fictional by far.

And they might also benefit from resin aftermarkets as well, I think.

Cheers,

Gwen
