DS-9 kit built out of the box.

The varying shades of biege were created by spraying decal film different colors, applying pieces and trimming it in place.

Model was painted, then sealed in future, then oil-paint sludge washed, cleaned up and feathered with a soft brush, highlighted, sealed and flatted.

The background started out as a rose :D . I was goofing around wit Photoshop one day and just started playing with all kinds of filters, stacking layers of different opacity, then dropped it onto a starfield.

I LOVE it!! Outstanding job, i really like your idea about painting the decal film.

I'm itching to build an X-Wing now that my 7 year old son recently "discovered" Star Wars  Any suggestions??

AMT/Ertl has three X-Wing kits. All of which can be found on eBay easily and at a fair price:

-a 1/72 snap-together

-a 1/48 version- the first X-Wing kit circa 1978.

-a 1/32 Pro-Shop version with lights and sound.

If your son's building it start with the snap together. The 48th version can be built into a nice model, but the cockpit's kinda lacking.

If you're building for yourself, get thee to Hobby Link Japan and get the Fine Molds 1/72 X-Wing; easily one of the best sci-fi injection kits ever created. It falls together like a Tamiya kit.

Excellent DS9 BTW. Great choice of colors- that station's colors have always been a mystery to me.

Thanks for the kind words B)

Unfortunately I only have 1 picture of the model  (maybe a few more boxed away). The model is currently (about 12 years now) hanging from the ceiling at Smith Bros hobby shop in Reseda, Ca. collecting dust (Actually, they keep a pretty clean shop!).

I built this model to demonstrate techniques I did on a how-to video "How to build science fiction models" (I also did "How to build jet aircraft models") 13-14 years ago. The model was actually only semi-finished on the one side shown.

It's pretty big, I'm guessing about a 16" diameter.

Here's the origional picture before Photoshop. I pumped up the color saturation a bit as the photo isn't as vivid as the model was.
