Anarchy
Bout a month ago i decided to start modelling once again ... but i don't have much space in my current flat so i can't just build a dozen planes like i would like to :( A 1:32 Flanker would have been fantastic but the price for the Kit+Zactoman ( :D ) parts is way too high, so i bought a 1:48 Academy kit ( 15$ ). I did some research and it should be tge best around ... but still not perfect. Now i still have to buy bout everything that's needed to build a good model and then learn how to actually do it ... So while browsing through many homepages, review sites, gallerys and forums it struck me - i don't want my model look like any of the usual ones, so i fired up Photoshop and began designing some custom camo schemes. OK, not all are custom - some are just adopted from other planes. I can fit 2 or 3 Flankers @ a nice spot where they get the attention they deserve, so i'll just visualize all ideas i have, the choose the best ones ... ATM i've finished 2 - A Jolly Rogers Flanker obviously not custom made ;) And now something really special, anime fans should recognize those colors, inspired by Neon Genesis Evangelions' EVA-01 unit : Some links if you don't know what the original looks like : http://www.chez.com/imaginex/page4.html http://db.cs.helsinki.fi/~hmaksima/lilith....EVA01__HUGE.JPG Size comparsion (Human vs. EVA unit): http://www.animanga2000.net/evangelion/fil...va_foto2_2.html Next will be a VF-111 "Sundowners" version, then a RAF Tornado Gr.1 Desert Pink scheme from the Gulf War ... after that i'll do a Splinter Camo version and play around with a dark gray/black scheme ... Comments are welcome ;)

EF
So you really want to build a US NAVY Flanker?
EF
Here's a VERY nice what-if: http://miarroba.com/foros/ver.php?foroid=4...&temaid=3015964
Anarchy
So you really want to build a US NAVY Flanker? Not really ... but those two versions were bout the easiest on my list ;) after the RAF ... I'll also make at least one or two Tigermeet versions ... and a "Black Bunny" / "Vandy 1" PS : nice photomontage, but painting US markings on a russian scheme doesn't look good at all ;) EDIT : @ post#5 That's a well done model, but a bit colorful ... now my eyes hurt :D Edited April 11, 2006 by Anarchy
dreammh
:D Are those really USAF Flankers? Or photoshopped?
EF
:D Just as real as this other pic:
Aggressor Supporter
A Jolly Rogers Flanker :D obviously not custom made ;) Wow. I must say this Flanker in Jolly Rogers colors looks very good!
Spaced Marine
A Jolly Rogers Flanker is a cool thought. The Skull & Bones look too good on those big ole tails.
dreammh
lol you got me!
Cloggy
The only thing is, you've done all that research and you're going to spend money on all the extras you feel you need in order to ensure you can build as accurate a Flanker as possible, then cover it with a paint scheme that will by definition make it totally inaccurate. Great project if that's what you want to do, of course, but could you find an out-of-the-ordinary genuine paint scheme to really make it shine? I know there have been unusual Flanker markings posted on these fora fairly recently.
Cloggy
On the other hand - just had a thought.....How about doing a VMFA-314 'digital Flanker'....? Edited April 12, 2006 by Cloggy
Raymond
http://racc.com.sapo.pt/su27/ nice different ones there
Flankerman
How about a 'Ferris Scheme' Su-35 - six shades of grey - getting progressively darker from front to rear. Complete with outline-only red stars - and its REAL.... Ken
Andrew D. the Jolly Rogers guy
A Jolly Rogers Flanker is a cool thought. The Skull & Bones look too good on those big ole tails. Well, I hate to admit it looks an awful lot better to me on THAT airframe than on the current one. But who knows...it may grow on me.

I know there have been unusual Flanker markings posted on these fora fairly recently. That's not really correct, i'm spending more time on researching how-to build good models in general, not how to build the best Flanker, and till now i've only spent a minimal amount of money on the model itself, the modelling accessoires will be much more expensive as i have - nothing. @Raymond - thanx for the link that's gonne be useful when i make the splinter camo ... Cyrus Tan
Hey gang, Lots of great ideas! It will be interesting to see some of them done. :D On a similar note...are there any good links to current SU-33 schemes? With all the Flanker builds going on, I've been really motivated ;) to get back on a Sea Flanker I started a couple years ago. I'm just looking for a particular scheme that ROCKS! TIA
Anarchy
I'd like to build a Su-33/37 too, but there are no kits around woth buying (at least that is what i've read pretty much everywhere) ... and a conversion set would be a bit too expensive. Anarchy
Mmmmmhhhh ... RAF Desert Storm camo adopted from the Tornado Gr.1 , most of em had cool nose arts :( ... how bout a "Vandy 1" version (really simple to do - black overall) that would be "Flanky 1 " then ;)
