  1. That's a sweet build, made all the sweeter by the bargain price!
  2. I think that's a pretty good attempt at weathering. It is perhaps a little stark, but then who's to say under severe weather conditions the winter scheme could not have deteriorated in such a way?
  3. This was the only one I managed to complete in 2012, even though I have about 8 unfinshed models on the bench. It's the Revell offering of the Catalina in 1/72 scale, built as a Christmas present for my father-in-law. I thought I'd try recreating a slipway for it, although I am not entirely sure of the dimensions and details of such things. Anyway, he was very happy with it, which is the main thing. Sorry for the grainy pictures; lighting was a bit low and I tried to enhance the pictures a little using photobucket's editing tools.
  4. Curious looking a/c, but beautifully built. Nice to see unusual planes modelled. Good job
  5. I always thought they were simulating (badly) the sound of their machine guns.
  6. Can I just say that I don't think you can consider pilots from Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales who were serving in the RAF as fighting for a foreign country's airforce. The RAF is the airforce of the United Kingdom of Great Britain (i.e. England, Wales and Scotland) and Northern Ireland. Pilots from the Republic of Ireland (Eire) would be another matter.
  7. Thanks. Airacobras were given the French Armee de L'air who had used earlier versions in North Africa. After the Germans were on the run, the GC 1/5 (Champagne) flew them from Provence, in operations over Italy - these are the markings of that squadron in September 1944. In November of the same year they converted to P47 Thunderbolts.
  8. Hi, I hope you don't mind me posting my last creation here. No WIP piccies, I'm afraid - I just wanted to get it done. All in all, a pleasure to build. Despite a couple of coats of Klear, the decals silvered slightly. Otherwise it ended up how I wanted it to look. Some of the photos are a little unsharp - the nights draw in early, and the light is dim. Hope you like it.
  9. That's a fantastic photo! They must've really guzzled that fuel.
  10. Nice neat build! How long is that?
  11. Here are the finished pics. Pretty much completed with Humbrol enamels, with a touch of preshading and washed with Promodellers Wash. Main points to note: I have not modelled the two little pointy things (pitot tubes?), that I think should project from under the nose of this aircraft. (You can see what I mean from the boxart on the 1st post of this thread). If I feel the urge to start fiddling with heated sprues, I may well return to this. Positioning the undercarriage struts was a complete guess as the instructions were very vague and of course there are no locating pins an
  12. Hope you don't mind me posting this here. Completed a few days ago for a Spanish Civil War Group build on another site. Boxshot: Sprues: Here's the resin: I know a lot of you folk soup up the cockpits and interiors, but I just can't see how anyone has a chance of appreciating them in this scale and for this a/c, once the fuselage is put together and the canopy installed and painted. So I am keeping very much to the basics inside. The vertical tail surfaces required some careful positioning - as there are no locating pins. It needed careful puttying an filing later. It's a l
  13. Hey Ross! Did you get any further?
