  1. Hi, What I found from a google search http://www.scale-models.co.uk/threads/joes-completed-phantom.26585/ Apparently this aircraft had part of her life as a Vf-31 machine. Cheers Eric B.
  2. Hello all, Thank you really for your very kind help. Regards Eric B.
  3. Hi, I don't know really (though I would double what Grey Ghost wrote) but airbrake position is no indication here as IIRC there is a connection between landing gear position and airbrake on Av-8Bs. Airbrake is deployed whenever landing gear is down in normal operation. Cheers Eric B.
  4. Hi, Thank you all. I'll search from the list of books you suggested. Cheers Eric B. PS : the Patrick Martin "Canadian ... Aircraft... markings" series might well be the kind I am looking for..
  5. Hello all, I just completed a little 1/72nd CF-5D in silver and red from a little Esci model. This and just ordering books from the Nordic Airpower series reminded me I have been looking for a good illustrated book on the history of post WW2 or current Canadian Air Force preferably with good colours photographs, until now with no result. So I felt I just might ask here. I think I can vaguely remember a book which was published between 2005 and 2010 probably. Title might have included words like Nordic or Northern wings (not sure). Any other book suggestion is welcome too. Cheers Eric
  6. Hi, Thanks Kursad, That is basically what I am thinking, still I find it amazing there is such a high tonal variation on modern, colour photographs, especially as both "versions" are numerous, not just the exception. Also why I was pointing that 66389 could be found on both series of photographs; I had a doubt it could have been repainted between both series of photos. Photo effect is weird, bringing the above question to me. Thank you. Eric B.
  7. Hi all, Specifically on the question of T-38s 2 tone colors I have seen very different series of photographs : Some show definately dark grey/light grey camo while others show an almost black/almost white livery. Interpreting photographs, even modern color pictures, can be difficult. Is there any way there actually are two different colors schemes, or is this just a matter of printing or differences in photo constrast and exposure? Here are some photos Grey/Grey http://www.ecpropertymanagement.com/resources/cool+T-38+web+large.jpg http://www.ecpropertymanagement.com/resources/3+ships+we
  8. Hi, I have built 1 Airfix, 2 Old Hasegawas (both times with Italeri Windshield), 1 Academy, 2 Fujimis and 5 new Hasegawas Tomacts (2 As, 1B, 2Ds) My first Hasegawa New Tool Tomcat was built quite soon after they were originally released probably end of 1991, latest until now around 2006). Caution and care was exercized but no major issue on building these models. I rate the Hasegawa F-14s as the best (by far) Tomcats in 1/72nd scale. I feel Fujimi's is just a skinny cat and I always felt I had to cement Phoenix pallets in place to conceal it front fuselage being to thin. Plus as neu and
  9. Hi, My 1/72 Viper collection mostly is based on the Hasegawa moulds. Old and probably lacking details but still sharp. Latest build was a Block 40 but I had to scratchbuild quite a lot of surface details, trade the Hasegawa cockpit for an Aires resin one (and that's a painful modification). I also have 2 Revell kits and an Academy one (but after my original hopes that this one would turn into a perfect modern Viper this one will be used for parts only to improve one older hasegawa kit. I actually must have 5 or 6 Hasegawas including 2 ADFs and one block 60, two Revells and one Academy.
  10. Arne, Congratulations really. This is a fantastic build of a fantastic aircraft. I love the details, the painting, the weathering. This is an inspirational build you posted here. Congratulations again and many thanks. Cheers Eric B.
  11. Hi, Thank you all. Steve transparent parts are from a Falcon RAF fighter set. I believe they are the same mould as the ones which were individually released under the Squadron name. Cheers Eric B.
  12. Hi, Here is my Douglas F4D-1 Skyray. Model is Tamiya, hence building was straightforward with no flaws. Decals are Aeromaster and livery is NAVY VF-141 "Iron Angels", in probably 1958 uncommon markings. Modifications were few : photoetched dashboard and seat belts and cutting and rebuilding leading edge slats, photoetched dashboard and seat belts. Eric B.
  13. Hi everybody, Just completed, an Academy Hawker Typhoon FR.1b. This model was started just around the time the Airfix Typhoon was released. Aircraft is three bladed propeller and small stabilators. I improved a few areas like cockpit using detail sets, shortening landing gear legs (3-4 mm need to be removed to give model a correct stance) and replacing transparent part, Academy windshied being to steep. Quickboost exhaust stacks were used to replace Academy parts. Building was generally starightforward, the Academy kit being an easy build (nice sharp plastic). decals are from Xtradeca
  14. Thank you all, Thank you really for your very kind words. Wishing you all a very happy year. George, special wishes for you, family and relatives for a happy and successful year. Not sure as I am a slow builder but I have a 1/72nd scale Hellenic RF-4E in my plans (I am thinking about 7507) and I might use your knowledge in the future. ;). I am pleased to see you here!! Yves, merci beaucoup. Connaissant la nationalité du "Webmaster", étant moi même de longue date un abonné d'ARC, c'est avec grand plaisir que j'édite ici mon petit modèle de CF-5. Merci de ton suivi sur Master194. (Yves, tha
  15. Hi all, That is one of the models I just completed on December 31st. This is an Esci Canadair (Northrop) CF-5D (officially CF-116D) Freedom Fighter. After some hesitation I promptly elected to build a Canadian machine. Next decision was « whixh Canadian livery ? ». Decision making was longer choosing between an Aggressor machine and a silver aircraft with red panels. After I found good photographs I finally decided a 419 Sq. jet (decals are by Leading Edge) On model now; I cannot remember precisely when the Esci Freedom Fighter series were first released but probably 25 years later (or ov
  16. Hi Thinking the same. I am not originally a big F-35 fan but that is what military aviation is becoming so we probably need to get ready for it for the next 50 years at least. If I am not wrong F-35s in 1/72nd scale are as follows from what I remember and not seeking to be complete here : * F-35As available from Italeri, Academy coming and possibly Hasegawa at later date (expecting Hasegawa) * We have a F-35B from Fujimi (I have one, did not check ic accurate shapewise - strange mix of details and snaptite kit - I think something wan be done with it) * I think I heard of no other F-35
  17. What a Poney, Fantastic build that you can be proud of. Photos really do justice to the P-51D even at the shorter ranges. It think this one really looks like a real mustang sent in a shrinking machine. BEAUtiful!! Eric B.
  18. I am very sad to read this. I always wondered who he was, where he was from, where he got his inspiration from. At a point I even came to believe he might be an active Iranian Air Force personnel which at the same time seemed very weird in the circumstances.. I never met him or maybe even shared email words with him but I deeply admired his work. It always was an outstanding mix of photo, scene setting and modeling skills that always fooled me into wondering if his models were real. Knowing his models were models I used to try to find clues and give aways but generally had hard time findin

  20. Hi, Gene I just hope you are right I started as a current jet aircraft guy (well current - nowadays - jet means to me F-4 late, F-14, F-15, F-16 etc...) only to turn back time as my interest in aviation grew. I went back even up to WWI little butterflies provided said model is top notch, sharp, easy and accurate. Now with that F-101 thread and your post I concur to the conclusion a great deal of "cold war" (or even late war) US aircraft still are missing in 1/72nd scale.. at least it is one of the period I notice most as I also believe it is one of the more creative period in aviation
  21. Hello all, Here are a few images of my Academy 1/72nd scale Crusader. Finished in VMF-232 (USMC) markings. Nearly OOB with a few details added in the cockpit area. Painted with Gunze acrylics. Actually not a new kit but a partial rebuilt after a shelf crash. It has been the subject of an article in the ARC Gallery. Repaired and re-photographed... Cheers Eric B.
  22. Hi all, As I said, here are a few additionnal daylight photographs; As one of my friends pointed I'll probably have to build up a WW2 type base to snapshot my warbird models in a more time related environment. Until then here we go!! Cheers Eric B.
  23. Hi, Thank you all Ruud, I confirm KW decals, besides the sharpness or their pin ups design, really are top decals. That's a line that I will definately follow. Cheers Eric B.
  24. Hi, Thank you all. Lothar, CH and Academy are different kits. I don't know if there is any connexion. Some parts may looks close but all in all they are vastly different models. I won't comment on accuracy but CH is a more complicated kit, has more building options and more details. On the other hand Academy is a simpler kit and might appear more "modeler friendly" than the CH offering. I have both kits in my pile and that is really up to modeler preference. One thing is certain, though they look quite close shapewise, CH Helldiver fin is taller by at least 5 mm (0.2 in) over th
  25. Hi, Here is my latest P-47D Thunderbolt, built nearly OOB bar a few cockpit details and aftermarket decals. They are Kitsworld decals. I have a good deal of their 1/72nd scale decals but this was the first time I had the opportunity to use them on one of my models. Conclusion? Absolutely fantastic, sharp, well designed, well printed, adhere tighly on curved surfaces, thin but dense in colours. Probably the best decals I ever used. A few details here : Then photographs of completed model. Conclusion : that was a nice littlle easy project : yes these Tamiya Thunderbol
