  1. I thought it was a shame that revell dropped the F-18F. I've talked to them numerous times about it, and their only concern is that they have a super hornet on the market and that people don't care if it's an E or F..I beg to differ..
  2. Here's another neat fact...MM has changed their Lt Ghost grey paint formula again..you can now see a difference between that and Dk Ghost grey again!! All is right in the world..lol
  3. Sure thing..I use a simple weathering technique..I post fade, then I take a gel pen, hit the panel lines, gloss coat, then re-fade. As for the boot prints on the walk way areas, I take a damp tissue (tp) and flatten it out with my finger, then load it up with ink from the gel pen and blot away. The process takes several passes, but it's quite convincing. As for paints, I use MM enamels exclusively.
  4. Title says it all..got the windscreen but need the canopy. Thanks!
  5. I really need to get one of your Growler conversions..I have an E kit with some spare F parts, and was thinking of building one. I've gotta get past this tomcat and KA-3B kick I'm on.
  6. Thanks! Actually, that's a NAWC F-14A lurking back there :D
  7. Agreed there...I have no idea why Revell cut the F-18F..dumbest business decision of the century. I managed to pick up the kit I built at a show for $5 only because the guy was clearing his stash at the end of the day..If I can get one cheap, I'll snag it up. Honestly, I like the Revell kit despite its flaws..they build up nice and are relatively fast kits to build.
  8. Been a while since I've posted any completed projects, but this one's been sitting around for a year and just needed the canopy attached. The kit is Revell's F-18F, Fightertown Decals, Avionix SJU-17 seats, and Steel Beach ACS coaming. Nothing fancy, just another bones jet. Enjoy
  9. There were roughly about 3 airframs painted up in the overall Med grey paint scheme..the markings were light ghost grey, but the bones and AJ's on the tails were white, Side/flap numbers were black. I **think** it was the TARPS airframes that were done this way, but don't quote me. That time frame from about 94-95 was an interesting one for VF-84. Lots of history digging for that one, but my only interest in VF-84 was during DS1 and their first cruise in 75.
  10. Thanks for the info Tom & Tommy. I doubt I'll go through with all the corrections per say, but I will say if Trumpeter holds true to form, I'll be nabbing up their ERA-3B when it comes out!!
  11. I can also comment the commemorative jet was not 3 tone TPS, but over all lt ghost grey. The tails were black, but they were completely faded out. As for the bones color on the commemorative jet, it's been up for debate before. Some swear they were light ghost grey, others say white..I'd tend to lean towards Andrew's post concerning them being white. The 90's were a constant season of change for the JR's concerning paint schemes right up to their disestablishment in 95. Hell, they even did a cruise with overall 35237 jets with black tails, and lt ghost greay markings.
  12. Guys- Thanks so much for the intel! This is the version of #20 I was going to build..looks like it has the late KA-3B nose...
  13. Thanks for the intel. They looked like they had a nice product line. The F-21 KFIR is what interests me..I'm not sure I can afford $90 for a kit, but still, I thought they had a good looking kit line up.
  14. So I came across a page on FB called Wingman Models..looks like they have some cool KFIR kits and was wondering if anyone had heard of them. It looked like there was some connection between them and Kinetic maybe? Enlighten me..
  15. I can't recall off the top of my head. I'd have to dig up the research in my hobby room since it's been so long since I've even looked up anything VF-84...lol
  16. Tommy- So I have a question I know you can answer. I have the KA-3B by Trumpter. My goal is to build it VAQ-34's number 20 jet. My question is, the kit comes with an electronics interior aft of the cockpit, would this jet have had that? Or would you recommend I leave that out and just close the bomb bay doors?
  17. VF-84 only ever used black tails..now for the bones, they used both white and light ghost grey. I had to do a double take on some of my research on VF-84's commemorative jet, but the guys at Furball or it could've been AB were on the money with their sheet.
  18. Dude..I won't disagree concerning the model, but I've been in the know and pretty tight with enough aircrew and maintainers since 2001, sometimes making multiple visits to Oceana during the year. Was it rare to see an F-14 on the ramp with the wings out? Yep, but typically when they were, the flaps and slats were deployed. Regardless, if you'd like I'd be glad to send you a reference CD of every F-14 pic I've ever taken..maybe it can help you with your future model projects. Just a couple of examples of the norm..
  19. It was more common to see the flaps and slats deployed. Not sure where you got that info from..every F-14 I've ever seen on the ramp during my visits were typically parked with the wings swept back, or if the wings were out, the slats and flaps were deployed. It was a rare sight to see them not deployed.
  20. BJ- Instead of using radome tan on the ECM blisters, try using the yellow zinc chromate in the small Testors bottle...it's about as close as you're gonna get for those.
  21. Holy crap...I can't believe how big I was back then...I'm glad I got divorced!! Best diet I ever went on
  22. I'm a recreational fisherman..I fish mostly for largemouth bass during the late spring throughout the summer...and I like to fish for snakeheads and bowfins. We typically don't have snakeheads in Alabama, but I've caught 1 in the Flint River and had to report it to the game and fishery dept, but damn did it put up a fight. The largest bass I caught last year was close to 9lbs less than 3 feet from shore off a red and black gary Yamamoto worm on the drop.
  23. They've been talking about moving those squadrons to Lemoore for years..will they ever do it? I have no idea, but with the F-35 coming on line, it could very well happen, but I highly doubt it..hell, they were talking about 103 moving to Lemoore back several years ago, but with funding being the crap that it is right now, that would mean new hangar spaces would have to be developed...yeah..I don't see that happening.
  24. The HB kit is identical to the Hase kit..the only difference is it doesn't include the actuators for the dropped flaps. I haven't had too many Hasegawa kits with a bunch of flash on them, but the last few hornet kits I got were pretty much flash-less (for lack of a better term).
