  1. Hi, I'm working on this Amodel Yak-28L for the "Wings of the red star GB", and I intend to eventually use alclad metalizers for the NMF (if I ever get it to that point) I got to wonder wether the primers that I intend to use (spray cans) will be compatible with the alclad stuff. Now I know that this stuff is laquer based, and I have the alclad primer for it, but I cannot use it because I don't currently have a spray booth, and I almost have to spray indors (or out of a window), sine I live in an appartment complex. also, the stuff is very thin and I need for it to cover (or fill in) a de
  2. HI, ma'an! a year later and I'm barely getting back to this kit. I've decided to strip it using the always favorite E / O oven cleaner. My only question is...will the oven cleaner strip the future I used to coat the clear canopies? Has anyone used elmers wood glue or white glue as a masking agent? your thoughts please. Thanks, Ernie A.
  3. Hi, I agree, Paul may not be as quick as others, but he came thru for me on the one deal I've had with him, He even matched prices on a couple of the items. In fact, I just sent for a quote on a new purchase. I guess it helps that I'm not usually in a hurry to get stuff in. It helps having patience...but you can never go wrong with good communication. By the way Paul...My home computer went caput yesterday. I won't be able to retrieve email for a while, so I would appreciate you sending me a PM here. This site I can check out at work. :D Thanks, Ernie A. 78589
  4. Greetings all, some progress to report. the simle jig came in handy during the attaching of the wings. the anhedral is right on. Unfortunatelly, the orientation of the top engine pod fairing (molded into the wing) does not agree with the the engine nacells' "drop" (wich should be perpendicular to the ground). some correcting will be in order to make the engine pods "drop" somewhat decent. Proceeded to attach the engine pods, and it took a lot of compromising to get them to fit with a decent look. Got started with fixing the engine pod joints. still a lot of work left.
  5. I feel your pain!! How about the 1/32 lineup? Very Impressive! (and expensive I bet) I can barely afford their 1/48 kits! Did see a couple of must haves in 1/72... Tu-22M2 Backfire B & Beriev Be-6 Madge I hope I can afford these two. Thanks, Ernie A.
  6. Fiddler, I know exactly how you feel. A loss of motivation has been my greatest obstacle. not to mention all the quality shortcomings that have to be overcome to produce something decent. I am also convinced that I will not be finishing this kit in the alloted time. Nevertheless, I hope of being able to put together a "weekender" kit just to save face. I'm considering an "out of the box" 1/48 Trumpeter Mig-15 in camo pain scheme. Glad to know you're working on something esle aswell. Ernie A.
  7. Hi, I just finished going thru the stash, and came across a 1/48 Trumpeter Mig-15. It seems like an easy build straight out of the box, especially with the camo paint scheme. this one has "weekender" potential. I mus t be able to finish something if I want to save face. Still working on the Yak, but ma'an...its a lot of work! this one might not make the deadline. Thanks, Ernie A.
  8. Greetings Fiddler, How are you doing with your Yak? any progress? I'd like to see what you have done. I haven't done anything on mine in months...just had to put everything on hold. I'm currently on vacation from work, and one of my goals is to work on it as much as possible starting tonight. thanks, Ernie A.
  9. Greetings DFN, I appreciate your intrest. Unfortunately, There's no progress to report whatsoever. Even worst, I'll have to remove the Tu-128 from my intended models to build for this GP. Had been very buisy at work and home. On the bright side, I'm currenlty on vacation from work and I plan to get back to completing the yak. If at all possible, I'll attempt an "out of box" mig 15 or 19. Thanks, Ernie A.
  10. HI, Does anyone have a preferred method or jig to scratch build aircraft harnesses? You know, to enhance wheel wells / crew compartments? thanks, Ernie A.
  11. Just reporting that I had a flawless transaction with Jeff Stoermer. Ernie A.
  12. I agree with Hawk10, it's something that's definately useful, but the blades are a bit tricky to use. I've included a the following pictures of the cutting base i build to use the saw properly. hope it helps. thanks, Ernie A.
  13. thanks to everyone for the comments. Fiddler, thanks, that's a great idea. I have to give that a try before closing the cockpit. Fiddler, I'm also very intrested to know what you do for the shockcones. I had originally thought about covering the intake and exhaust with FOD covers, but I'll wait to see what you do. by the way, I'm also very intrested in what software you're using to draw the cockpit components. I do a bit of disigning myself on my free time. Thanks, Ernie A.
  14. Here's the rest of my progress on my Yak-28L build. Here's a look at one of the engine pods primed and ready for assembly into the wing. I found the fit of the engine pods to the wings, and the wings to the fusselage were not symetrical in any respect, thus I decided that attaching the wings to the fusselage first will be the best option. for this, I had to build an alignment jig. I based the dimentions for the geometry on the drawings obtanined from the Aerofax book on this subject. Here it is...nothing fancy. Initial dryfitting looks promessing. Anhedral and fit matches drawing
  15. No major progress to report on the Tu-128, other than some cockpit assembly, and cleaning and dryfitting of major assembly items. Progress on Yak-28L has also been slow, but here's what I got so far. finally got to join the fusselage halves. this required the finishing of the L/G bays, and bombardier's compartment. I attempted to replicate the cocpit and bombardier's compartment based on my references, but I finally gave up in favor of some representative freelancing. this is what I ended up with. I'm satisfied. more to follow. Ernie A.
  16. Hi, nice work! the Su 15 is one of my fav. aircraft. one day I'll tackle my trumpeter kits, but for now, I'll be watching your thread closely. One question by the way, what is the color you're using for the interior? Thanks, Ernie A.
  17. Awesome! I see you went for it. great job! I'll follow your thread very closely. Did you take pics of the wing root repair prior to wing attachment? I'd like to see what that looks like. keep posting your progress. Thanks, Ernie A.
  18. Awesome! I knew there was someone out there. One Question Jerry, what's your mixing ratio? I've seen it mintioned here that 1:1 works ok. do you agree? or what do you suggest? Thanks Jerry! by the way, are you from Texas? I am, but currenlty live in Louisiana...I miss my Texas! Ernie A.
  19. Thanks Irvin If I don't get a response soon, I'll have to resort to experimenting. But for the sake of not waisting time, I'll hold off some more. Believe me, Its a pretty common putty used my modelers. I see guys using it for all sorts of things, and writing about it. What I failed to comprehend was how to prep it for what I intend to use it. Come'on guys I know you've done something with this stuff before. Thanks, Ernie A.
  20. Hi all, What I want: Apply putty with a brush for medium area coverage for overall surface smoothing. Putty: 3M Acryl Blue putty Need to know: What consistancy do I need? and which of the following methods gets me there? 1. Putty mixed with laquer thinner 2. Putty mixed with testors liquid cement 3. Putty mixed with nail polish remover thanks, Ernie A.
  21. Janman: you do great work ma'an! I'll be following this build closely. Nice work on the instrument panel. did you use decals for the instrument gages or is that paint? Ernie A.
  22. JackMan: The PE stuff that you see is from my spares box. I don't know of any PE sets for the Yak-28 series. Janman: I have some reference material from a book that I can scan and send to you. Thanks, Ernie A.
  23. Thanks for the great advice...I'm kinda new to the image posting world. Well here's my latest progress. Assembled the engine pods. found out the intake and exhaust to be poorly shaped, and proceeded to replace them with brass tubing. I replaced .19in. of the intake and .15in. of the exhaust, and proceeded to re-contour using putty. Couldn't resist an overall dry fit check. and a fit check of the cockpit. well, that's all for now. Will try to get going on the Fiddler soon. Thanks, Ernie A.
  24. Awesome Ken! Glad to see one finally being built. Mine is relinquished to the shelf for now, but after seeing your work, I'm not sure I can contain myself any longer. Great Job. <_< Ernie A. PS. Any pics of the wheel wells in your private album?
  25. Greetings Gang. Well, I've been somewhat buisy with the Yak, not much done to the Fiddler yet. The kit matches overall with the ref. drawings I'm using, except the fuselage lenth. The kit fuselage seems a bit short (approx. 12"), but I've decided to go as is. I started by re-touching the panel lines, and correcting a few. Had to make some minor surgery on one of the wings to remedy a slight warpage. I hope is not too ovious at the end. I then moved on to the iterior. I decided to improve the cockpit with items from the spares box. I also decided to add the bom-bay to make the fus
