  1. My stash is filled with old, difficult kits, and it seems they're all I build these days. I recently converted Monogram's ancient 1/48 Wildcat kit to an FM-2 (build thread). Previous to that I finished rebuilding an old Revell 1/32 Zero (build thread), and am currently attempting to detail a Hasegawa 1/32 262 (build thread). Nearly all my currently planned builds fall along these lines too. They make you feel feeble sometimes, but overcoming their challenges is great for building skills, and the sense of satisfaction far outweighs what you get from 'easy' builds. IMHO. Kev
  2. Interesting George. I'm having frosting problems with mine, and refuse to use it anymore. Don't know whether it's because it's an old bottle, but I'm having much better luck with an even older bottle of Aeromaster acrylic flat clear. Superb stuff! Kev
  3. Yes, I can see the point. If you wanted Radu's riveters, you can buy them directly from Radu, and for a much cheaper price. I still don't think you're getting an inferior tool, just an overpriced one, as Blackcollar says. Kev
  4. I really like Radu's riveters, and the effects they produce. Great tools in my opinion. Examples: Anything that makes a square hole just seems silly for the purpose. Kev
  5. Impressive work Kent! Any updates? How's the 262 going? Kev
  6. Really nice result Kent! Sorry not to have commented sooner. Now do one in 1/32! Kev
  7. MDC have some in 1/32 Patrick: http://www.modeldesignconstruction.co.uk/m...b605%20stencils Kev
  8. I was lucky enough to see SRV play here in Melbourne just after Couldn't Stand the Weather came out. The Fabulous Thunderbirds were support (with Stevie's older brother Jimmy on guitar), and they put on an excellent show too. And yes, the two brothers did jam on stage, and it's still one of the best concert experiences I've ever had. Kev
  9. Interestingly, this movie is called Flying High! here in Australia. What's it called in other non-US parts of the world? Kev
  10. Oh, man, am I ever going to remember that approach! Thank you so much for sharing it. I built the old Matchbox 1/32 Sea Venom last year, and masked and painted the red-and-white squares by hand. I wracked my brain like crazy trying to come up with a more efficient and effective approach, but never thought of this. Bravo sir! Kev
  11. I've found that, for me, lacquer thinner is the miracle ingredient when using Xtracolour enamels. I don't use them often, but when I do, I always thin them with lacquer thinner. Not only do they dry in a sensible amount of time, but they seem to mix a little better too. Kev
  12. I had an entire bottle mailed to me from the US last year with no issues. Kev
  13. Ah, good advice! I think I must just have to look harder. Kev
  14. Thanks dude. Australian hardware (at least where I live) is dominated by a single giant chain called Bunnings. And as far as I can work out they don't carry anything like this. Still, someone local must, right? Kev
  15. Wow, that is excellent! I built that kit a couple of years ago, and I reckon this one's better! Kev
  16. Very nice work man. Good to see these old kits getting some love. Where did you get the acrylic rod from? I see it used a lot, but can't seem to locate a ready source here in Australia. Kev
  17. Well, that gets a big "wow!" from me! Kev
  18. Thanks for all the kind words guys. I really appreciate it! Kev
  19. I'd be interested to hear what the problem was Steve, if you don't mind. PM me if it's sensitive info. We had a weird issue like this on LSP recently, and I'd like to compare notes. Kev
  20. Looks good Kent! The only Zero I've ever built in 1/48 was the old Otaki one, which is OK, but not a patch on this one as a kit. I must get one of the more modern ones to have a bash on one day. Looking forward to seeing yours finished. Kev
  21. Interesting. Over here, in most comps I've been to, if you place, but remove your models and leave before the presentations, you forfeit your award. Is it different at the US Nats? Kev
