Supertom
Hey everybody, For some reason an all-black model doesn't look right to me. Probably it's because it's just so...black. I've heard mixing black paint with brown paint, and/or black with grey. What do you suggest?
Old Blind Dog
Mix it with a little light gull gray, or a tiny bit of white. . .and I DO mean a TINY BIT! Old Blind Dog
Scalephantomphixer
Here is my mix of Tamiya paints for "black" cockpits: - 3 parts XF-1 (flat black) - 2 parts XF-2 (flat white) I gives a drak grey, which appears to be a faded "black" HTH, Pierre
madmike
Hey everybody,For some reason an all-black model doesn't look right to me. Probably it's because it's just so...black. I've heard mixing black paint with brown paint, and/or black with grey. What do you suggest? Vallejo make a black grey, which is similar to cockpit black being a very very dark grey, almost black. I was told today the Tamiya are relaseing a new colour called Nato black, which is essentially a very day, almost black, grey. HTH :D MikeJ
Thommo
Not sure about black cockpits (never had one) but for tyres I use (acrylics) Tamyia flat black with a drop of MM dark drab (brown colour), probably a ratio of about 4:1. Thommo
Steve Filak
Tom- MM Aircraft Interior Black is also good, and it provides enough of a contrast with black that you can see a difference.
SpiritZeroThree
i'll second that motion on the MM Aircraft Interior Black, i think it's my new favorite color :)
GretarBill
Hi supertom I use a paint from Revell (no. 9) called Anthracite (RAL7021) It is nearly black, but has a little grayish and blueish look. I use it on tires, black cockpits and many other parts. Best regards Gretar Bill
Kasatka
Has anybody used Tamiya's Nato Black? It looks a bit toned down.
