f5guy
Hi guys, My 32nd F-18B build is starting to progress nicely, but before I get too far along, has anyone had problems with the rubber wheels in the Academy kit melting the plastic hubs? I know there have been problems in the past with this on other kits, but has anyone had this problem with this kit specifically? Thanks, Fred K.
Eastern
Hi! I built my Academy A/F-18D five years ago but till the moment no such a problem occurred. But I faced the problem on my 1/48 scale Academy AH-68D. Rubber tires have melted the hubs. :( I hope they use a plastic-frendly rubber for their Hornet kit. Chers! ALF18
It's been at least 3 years since I built the big Academy into a CF-18A. No problems at all with the plastic tires and hubs. Never heard of anyone else having that problem either. ALF
Netz
To be safe you can paint the wheel with an enamel that will make a protective layer between the two materials. Curt
Spitfire31
Or, to be even safer, insulate the hub with metal foil, for instance BareMetal which has negligible thickness. FWIW… /Joachim

phantom
Only thing I had trouble with was the original kit landing gear. Its too weak for the model. You need brass replacements.
FIGHTS ON
Done 2 ("C" & "D"). no problem with the rubber & wheels, but learnt the hard way with the 1st kit (!) that the 2nd kit needed better undercarriage – so I used the white metal SAC ones Have just received this years combined birthday & Xmas present from the wife - the trumpeter F/A-18F. Great to see a "SuperHornet” in this scale (thank-you trumpeter), but IMHO Academy's "legacy" hornets are the better kit - yet only cost 3/4 the trumpeter price. Modelmkr
Or, since Academy provides both rubber and plastic wheels in thier 1/32 Hornet kits, you could always use the plastic ones...
Neo
Or, since Academy provides both rubber and plastic wheels in thier 1/32 Hornet kits, you could always use the plastic ones... and send me the rubber ones for my hasegawa F-18 !
