Aigore
Bit of detail painting going on today :D Masked and painted the anti glare on the nose.. And the front edges of the fins and wings got painted with Alclad white aluminium... Unfortunately the tape lifted the paint on one of the wings...strange since I had it clear coated to avoid just that :/ Then I masked off the nose cone and and the IFR probe, I begun with Alclad primer to get rid of all the different paints used earlier, it would take way to many layers of white to cover the paint shifts otherwise. And the mask removed, got a nice off white tone to it :D CHeers!
Wolfgun33
Wow. That's just incredible! I wish I had spent the money and gotten the Hasegawa Tomcat instead of the Revell one. Sooo much nicer. Great work on your Cat. I've been taking notes! Can't wait to see (and learn) more.
mustanger
Terrific Tomcat! One interesting fact -- the Iranians at least once mounted a HAWK missile on the fuselage just under the wing root on a Tomcat. I've seen a photo of it. The Tomcat in question was in the same color scheme you are using, but no markings were visible in the shot.
jimz66
WOW very nice Tomcat...

mustanger
Thanx guys :D @ Mustanger Yup, I know.... didnn´t turn out effective tho. Not surprised. The combination sure provides an interesting, and unexpected, appearance
Aigore
Blast and damnation!! I´ve misplaced the PE sheet that came with the gawa model I can´t make the boarding ladder without it nor add the canopy locking mechanism...
Aigore
OH well got some more detail painting done today at least... Gunport and steps... Airbrake houses... Oh, and I got the wingfold bags in place. I dmit that´s not the entire progress from today but the rest is just small parts getting paint on :D ..and loosing a PE sheet :/ Cheers! Aigore
Only small stuff again ... Assembled the tailhook, I took off aout 1mm off the tailhook since it´s a bit long :D Painted the main wheels.. Painted the Phoenix missiles.. And the other missiles as well for that matter :P And the airbrakes... Touched up where the tape lifted the paint...a bit od polishing and a clear coat it won´t show as obviously.. Well then...Time to start making the landing gear legs then and I think decals are about to happen :D Cheers!
bdt13
Janne- Very good looking, I hope you find your PE! Question - when you paint the wheels, what do you paint first, the tire or the hub? Yours came out looking nice!
Aigore
Thanx bdt13 :-D I first shoot the entire wheel in flat black and then I shoot the white of the rim. Then I brushpaint the tyre with diluted flat black, I let the thinned paint seap around the rim.

Aigore
Time for some construction for a change :D I shamelessly stole Veliko_pile´s method for making the canopy breaker... First a bit of masking... Then a bit of putty and off with the mask... I shifted my attention to the rear, the fuel dump looked horrid so I cut it off and drilled a hole... Then I stretched some plastic tube to the right diameter and put it into place... And now to the landing gears! I really don´t like the gawa landing gears...way too many parts I think! Got them together after a while and I remember hearing something about the fit with the Aires wheel well and the gawa struts.. I dry fitted the MLG..and well that didn´t look good :/ it should look like this..but the MLG support is misaligned.... After some clever meassuring I decided to cut off 3 mm from the support... Now we have a perfect fit! That was quite a chunk I had to take out of th support :P Compare with the unmodified one :P More about the struts tomorrow :D Cheers! gb_madcat_sl
Nice work so far. I don't think you should "correct" the MLG until it is perpendicular to the fuselage. Take a look at the photo below. Also, there is a brace that should fit into the small hole on the fuselage. http://anft.net/f-14/f14-detail-gearmain-12.htm Mark
JesniF-16
Nice work Janne the man Looks like a good fix on the dump pipe Now where's the decals? /Jesse
Aigore
Thanx Mark and Jesse :D I double checked the MLG alignment and I think you may be right.... no biggy, I just reattach the parts I sawed off :D SOrry Jesse, no decals yet..gotta do the landing gears first :D
Aigore
There... fixed :D And remember now; not to listen to any of my advice! Edited August 21, 2012 by Aigore
