nicholassagan
Lastly, primer! Black basing method using Mr. Surfacer’s 1500.
Joel_W
Nicholas, Nicely done. All that PE really did blend in quite well with a coat of primer. Joel
nicholassagan
Thanks Joel! It really does tie together. Something about the black makes it look even more bad azz.... :D
dnl42
Looking great! I just ordered the Master pitot from Sprue Bros. I tried for quite some time to build the Academy brass pitot, but there's no mechanical bond for the vanes, and despite many attempts, including various jigs for alignment, I could get them all on without losing one. nicholassagan
Hey Dave, I actually used a thicker CA and dipped the connecting rod of the vane first, then carefully held it in place as the CA set. I actually bumped one off and reset it with no problem. The Master pitot also comes with a couple extra vanes, just in case.
ChernayaAkula
The Fishbed doesn't look half-bad in overall black!
Motta
Hi Nicholas! Great job so far!!! Which tool did you use for riveting?

nicholassagan
Thanks guys! Motta, I used RB Production's tool and love it!
Jennings
Lookin good :) Is it too late to tell you that those are late style bis main wheel hubs? The MF used the ones with the big holes in them...
nicholassagan
Oh well. :) I like the look of these more. :P
Rodney
Looking good. I enjoyed building the Mig-21MF and have several more in the stash. I'm looking forward to seeing you get some color on this one. Rodney
nicholassagan
Thanks Rodney. Me, too. I'm hoping to have some good painting time this weekend. Forecast puts us in the upper 30's/lower 40's so it shouldn't be too cold on the porch with the paint booth. :D
Motta
Thanks guys! Motta, I used RB Production's tool and love it! Many thanks... Just ordered one for me.
harvy5
Very nice work. The wheels should be inflated! Mainly wheels had pressure 11MPa . :D
nicholassagan
Ha, thanks Harvy! Even inflated they need a flat spot to rest on the ground. :)
harvy5
It's perfect, right now I see my materials from the school which my sister sent me. And remember the wonderful life in the Slovak AF with a friend who came with me to the UK.
Joel_W
Thanks guys! Motta, I used RB Production's tool and love it! I really need to get one too, as I still replace rivets the fashion way, with a slightly dull sewing needle. Joel
nicholassagan
You guys won't regret getting that RB tool. It's been great....
Joel_W
You guys won't regret getting that RB tool. It's been great.... Nicholasagan, I hope so. I need all the help I can get with re-scribing and riveting. Not exactly my strong suit. Although, I've been doing a little re-scribing on the F-15C and haven't screwed it up as yet. nicholassagan
Joel, I've found that the Testor's scribing tool is really nice, too. Especially on styrene. I also have Hasegawa's tool but that seems to work better with resin. Here are some other builds of mine where that rivet tool came in handy: https://cosmosmodels.wordpress.com/2014/07/21/tamiya-148-bf109e-4n-black-3/ https://cosmosmodels.wordpress.com/2014/06/18/tamiya-148-fw190d-9/ https://cosmosmodels.wordpress.com/2014/05/13/148-tamiya-fw190d-9-red-baron/ https://cosmosmodels.wordpress.com/2014/05/02/172-tamiya-fw190a-4-walter-nowotnys-winter-bird/
Joel_W
Nicholas, I've been using the Tamiya J scriber. It's ok, but I from what I've read the Trumpeter one is much easier to use. I took a look at those other builds, and the rivet work is amazing. One would think that they were molded that way. Joel
Iceman8241
Wow, you're really fast builder! I just resumed works on mine IAF bis and I am about to add some fuselage and wing details. More pictures soon :)
nicholassagan
Light gray on the belly!
Joel_W
Nicoholas, The light gray looks smooth as silk on the belly side. It's interesting that you glued on the pylon stations at this point. I've been leaving them off till after painting and weathering with the loads on. I've found it much easier to work on them off the aircraft rather then on. I do modify their mounting base by sanding off any small plastic mounting pins, and making new ones out of steel rod. With a good tight fit, you don't even need glue to hold them in place, but I always add a few drops of CA thin on the pins. Never had any issues. So far so good.
