SBARC
This is a very simple but effective mouse trap design you make yourself from a plastic bottle.
habu2
I bought a couple of about 20 years ago and still have them.

SBARC
I'm still rely on cats. No mice whatsoever :)/> A bit more expensive though. Some cats are not very good at catching a mouse....here's a funny video to demonstrate.
Helmsman
As long as mouse is caught it's good enough in my book. And that didn't take long Edited December 2, 2015 by Helmsman
Jennings
What comes in square section plastic bottles like that? You can't hinge a round bottle that way.
Fellow Hobbyist
Some cats are not very good at catching a mouse....here's a funny video to demonstrate. Even worse still. I've heard plenty of stories where a families would-be mouser thought it would be better to keep the mouse alive and release it's new rodent friend elsewhere in the house to run amok. dnl42
"Fiji" water and "Naked" juice bottles are square. There are others. I had a Chocolate Lab that would bring presents. Brought roof rats into the house on two occasions. She was very proud of herself as she laid that ex critter at my feet. At 3am, I was a little freaked out, but managed to retain my composure and praised her as she WAS displaying outstanding breed characteristics.
huntermountain
And don't use cheese to get the mouse in the trap, chocolate works much better as a lure.

huntermountain
problem with those is (and I have one myself): they tend to brag about what they caught. I've had cats bring live mice and birds inside the house. And then I can begin chasing...

Bigasshammm
What's worse is when the kids can't differentiate between a cat toy and a dead mouse. Was laying in bed one weekend and the kids dropped a cat toy on my wife's head. Was a dead mouse instead. I still laugh.
