Martin Janousek - Ciromodels
Maybe I was a bit naive, but I was hoping to see a more detailed cargo bay with clam shell doors that can be positioned open. Well, you can't have everything and maybe the Ciro resin sets work also on the Hobby Boss kit. It is posible Mi-8 hobby boss as next Ciro models project.... maybe

janman
colleagues at www.flugzeugforum.de see some difficulties. From their first view, the kit represents a Mi-8MT Hip-H, so to speak a Mi-17 (as the Trumpi 35th kit does). This version does not correspond to a Mi-8T as the box claims as far as the engine unit and fuselage length is concerned. German forces, either eastern or later in unified Germany never operated Mi-8MT so the decals are totally wrong Oh yeah... Damn. Now that I have had a closer look (should've done that earlier... ), yes, that is NOT an Mi-8T (Hip C) as promised on the box and in the instructions. The kit clearly represents Mi-8M/MT (export Mi-17). It has a tail rotor on the other side than Mi-8T, the engine cowlings are shorter thus indicating the upgraded engine and the engines intakes have dust covers, which the Mi-8T didn't have. So, this is not the version I was looking for to make a Finnish Hip C... Hobby Boss, Hobby Boss... They did it again.
pollie
Well, if it proves to be an accurate Mi-17 I´d still be a little bit happy...........
janman
Well, if it proves to be an accurate Mi-17 I´d still be a little bit happy........... That's how it goes. You can never please everyone. But I truly hope the kit is otherwise good and for instance the windscreen wouldn't be an issue.
Jennings
How hard could it be to put the longer doghouse from the Zvezda or KP kits onto the upper fuselage of the HB kit to get a true Mi-8? If the nose/cockpit is accurate, I'd be ecstatic. If they did one in 1/48, I'd wet myself J
tiger331
So, did somebody already saw the kit? With Ciro - although prepared for KP, most of it fits also to Zvezda. The exeption is clear canopy, which does not fit. But I used Mi-9 conversion set for Zvezda and it worked. Canopy I used the Russian after-market product /what is the name???-could not remember now/. Only with interior parts was some work needed - Zvezda has different distqnces between the cabine side windows... So I am looking desperately for Hobby Boss...

Vflight
The Hobby Boss web-site indicates that another Mi-8 kit is to come, hopefully an Mi-T, and apparently with cockpit armour (and weapons?).
ChernayaAkula
As Vflight said, Hobby Boss changed the Hips on their website. There's now an Mi-8MT/Mi-17 as well. The CAD drawing from the listed Mi-8T (Hip-C) have been transferred to the Mi-8MT/Mi-17. Janman, can you confirm with your "sources" whether the Hind is a scale-down as well? I could get one on German eBay, but I'm a bit hesitant because of Hobby Boss' track record regarding helos. Since they apparently scaled down the 35th scale Hip, I think the Hind should be a scale-down as well, considering the Trumpeter 1/35 Hind is a Hind-E as well.
jose miguel
I hope that the Mi-8/17 is OK. The Italeri/Zvesda and the KP are not a serious kit to today standarts..... Anyone but a Hobby Boss helicopter in 72? Any opinion of their models? José Miguel
ChernayaAkula
Took the plunge and bought the Hobby Boss Mi-24V Hind-E sight unseen. And it is.... ...flippin' sweet! At least it looks fantastic in the box. Seems to be the large Trumpeter Hind scaled down. I'll write up and post an in-box review later, with pics and a comparison to the Hasegawa and Italeri iterations of this helo. Comparing sprues to the Italeri and Hasegawa seems to indicate the Hobby Boss will be the best Hind so far in 1/72. But more later! pavolSK
A few pictures of the Mi-8MT (Mi-17) HobbyBoss kit 1:72... Pavol
Albert Moore
Looks like we have a winner in regards to the windscreen! That gets bonus points considering no manufacturer has been able to get it right up to this point. Everything else look good too! Cheers, Alby
jose miguel
Pavol, thanks a lot!!!! José Miguel
janman
Niceee! Detailing seems to be pretty crisp and as Alby already noted, the windscreen area looks good too.
pavolSK
Another pics and a quick comparison with the drawing :) . This drawing was published in the Czech magazine "Plastic Kits Revue" Issue 22 (1994). Pavol Edited July 4, 2008 by pavolSK
Berkut
I quick question to see if i have understood correctly: HB mi-8 is actlly much closer to Mi-17 than to Mi-8t. So I can just make mi-17 model of it? And if i want to make a "real" mi-8t, i have to change side of back rotor? I wounder since Pavol compared with Mi-17 drawings and janman had some cents thrown in... And pavol, thanks for realy great pictures!
Intruder_bass
That looks awesome for 72 scale! Too bad there is no weapon pylons but I guess you can take those from Zvezda kit! Andy

Box represents Mi-8T, but inside the box we can find pure Mi-8MT (Mi-17) ! No alternative parts for the Mi-8T are included. You can make only Mi-17.
