Matt Roberts
Cannot see if it has a targeting pod, though it looks like there is a strake or something under the intake. That is one wierd triple ejector rack, strange how the lower sticks out like it does http://data4.primeportal.net/models/thomas...ll_03_of_52.jpg http://data4.primeportal.net/models/thomas...ll_04_of_52.jpg Well that does it no Hobbyboss kit for me then....I'll just have to wait for the Hobbyboss Mig-17s all four of them! Steph is gonna kill me sometime this year Matt Edited February 8, 2008 by Matt Roberts
jenshb
Looks like IR Micas on the wingtips too. And a great choice of markings. I thought I wasn't going to buy any more Rafales until I'd finished the ones in the stash... Jens
Fuji
Ya beat me to it Matt, Not really French LGBs, they are GBU-12s, the important thing is that it has the French TER, IR Micas and the CHaff & Flare dispensers.

Steph is gonna kill me sometime this year Matt Actually the LGB's are standard US GBU-12's. The triple ejector racks are the bespoke French ones. Shame there's no AASM for them! The "strake" under the intake is just part of the Rafale's EW suite (Spectra?). It is showing the rear strake dispensers and Spirale EW set up as well. Looks like a pretty much up-to-date Rafale to me! Just wish it was 72nd. . .
Matt Roberts
Ok a question for the Rafale experten around here, does the B in the LGB configuration carry a designator pod, or is it a buddy system? Maybe I should have bought that Air Forces Monthly issue with them in it a few months back! It looks like my spares box will finally get some GBU-12s in it this year with the Tamiya Viper, Kinetic Viper and the RoG Rafale... Matt
ChernayaAkula
<...> Just wish it was 72nd. . . You and me both! Although, for the Rafale I make an exception. But there's a silver lining: Italeri said they'll re-release an updated 72nd scale kit. <...> does the B in the LGB configuration carry a designator pod, or is it a buddy system? <...> I believe it's a buddy system until they get the Damocles pod (supposed to arrive in mid-2008). Until then the Mirage 2000Ds do the lasing, IIRC. At least that's the way they handled it during the Afghanistan deployment. Matt Nowadays, in Afghanistan, french rafales act as bombtrucks and desigantion pods are mounted on 2000D (for AdA rafales) and SEM (for Marine nationale ones). andrew.deboer
Wow. Being in the finishing stage of my Rafale M, I'll want one of these the moment they become available. Hope they revise the M too! Now, if only the Armée de l'Air would find some paint besides grey...
Av8fan
Does this kit make the family model only??? Anyone know? I really want a single seater to start ofF with. Like I said before in the 2008 release thread, Revell is going to get a chunk of my money this year. Starting with the lanc. Edited for Speeling mistaken sheesh Edited February 8, 2008 by Av8fan
Dave Williams
The previous releases of the Revell Rafale were separate for the single seater and twin seater, so I suspect this might also be a twin seater only. However, parts interchange with the single seater kits.
MickeyThickey
Additionally, given the landing gear differences, you will not be able to build an M from the B kit, even if it did have the single seat spine/canopy/shelf. Oh, and all the RoG Rafales have a targeting pod. Unless they've altered the sprues to delete it, this one will too. Edited February 8, 2008 by MickeyThickey
Av8fan
Oh shucks, So unless Revell releases the Single seater, it's Hobby Boss or evilbay. Oh well. Should have bought one(a few) years ago.
j-fever
It would have been cool if Revell released the kit as : "Rafale C/B Armee de l'Air (updated)" as originally listed, maybe they will bing out a "C" model later? IMHO, Revell will eventually re-issue the single seater, no need to buy a CopyBoss rip-off kit. Build the B model while waiting. Edited February 8, 2008 by j-fever

Looks like a pretty much up-to-date Rafale to me! Just wish it was 72nd. . . I am with you. We need a good Revell Rafale in the 1/72nd scale. Just as they did (reversed) for the Typhoon. Use a neat study and release the kit in both scales 1/48th and 1/72nd.. I just read the Academy 1/72 F-16C thread with pleasure. I'll sure buy one. But I also wonder why all brands concentrate on the same birds when (good) F-15E, F-5E/F, F-106, F-102, Rafale, FJ3/4, Rafale, P-47N, F4U-4, F-84F still are missing in 1/72nd scale. Eric B. I sure hope the single seat C model isn't far off too. If it's anything like this new B model, I'm going to be a very happy man!
Dave Williams
I just hope they make it over to this side of the pond.
Fuji
Guess its a good thing I kept two Ms in my stash, I can make an updated M and a WhIf BM Edited February 8, 2008 by Fuji

My thoughts exactly! There's also HobbyBoss with a new 72nd scale F-16. Can't they scale down their Rafale or Mirage III.
AlexP
I hope this kit comes with extra parts to make the C variant
ChernayaAkula
^ I hope so too, but I'm not holding my breath. It was originally advertised as "Rafale B/C updated", but now it is just listed as "Rafale B updated", both on their website and at Nuremberg. Maybe they'll release another updated kit later?
Josh1971
And maybe they'll release this B-model with some options on the decals, so that I won't have to make it in that rather flamboyant scheme shown in the photos. JB
