Samurai_Chris
Considering I have threads regarding my other projects. I though while you guys in the US were getting over your Thanksgiving hang over, I thought I would start a thread regarding my Revell 1/144 A380 QANTAS build.. To start, I will make it clear that this is in-fact my second try at this aircraft.. My original was started well over a year ago, and before the new livery was designed for QANTAS. Second: That project is now in pieces upstairs, and is unlikely of being resurected at any time soon! And so. Because of that fact I decided to get another kit, and start again.... My decal set came from Two-Six ( Or whatever they are called) And seem to be a nice set.. The build itself is currently under ptty stage, and awaiting my concentration with sand paper... But for now, I thought I would show how far I got with the first build... And see if I can improve from it! I will say that unlike last time, I have the decal set.. The last build required me to mask and paint the Kangaroo on the tail, and use clear film to makethe other decals needed.. This time, she should look the way she was meant to look.... Hopefully! Big Kev
I'll be following this one Chris, as I have exactly the same plans - even though I have neither kit nor decals yet! Kev

Get in there! My problem at the momment is that I have decals for the Virgin Atlantic A340, and Virgin Blue 737-800, and no kits.. Thats the story with my life at the minute! The 737-800 is easy enough to get, but the A340 (and for that matter) the A330 are making life difficult for me in finding them.... (That is a hint to everyone!) le_boz
Well done Chris, Your 380 look really good, and I like your JAL below, it give a good eady of the size of the beast, Congratulation, Boz
Mr. Silverback
Excellent build as usual, Chris.
racinghart
Absolutely looks gorgeous which decal did you prefer ? twosix or hawkeye?
Big Kev
Kev, dont be shy. Get in there! Mate I would if I could afford it! It's not a cheap kit unfortunately, and with the cost of Qantas decals on top, it well exceeds my current budget... Still, Santa's coming soon, so you never know. madmike
Superb! I have the kit, now need some decals. Cheers MikeJ
Samurai_Chris
Absolutely looks gorgeous :) which decal did you prefer ? twosix or hawkeye? Actually, all the decals on that build were made by me, and the tail art masked and sprayed.. As I stated above. This was an old project that has since been scrapped. I am currently building a newer version as we speak.. I will use the two six decals on the new one, so havn't used them as of yet.. That JAL 747 ended up being an NWA bird that was cut up, and the fusalage pieces used for my new 747-8I project.. Chris
Tony P
Looks nice. You can see why they had to redesign the Roo. Can I ask how you made the red part straight on the curved fuselage surface? Thanks
GCA333
Thats a nice looking jet there Chris. How did you manage to mask the tail on your first build? Would you recommend the TwoSix decals? Great job, love the livery!
vc-10
Well, Two-Six decals look very good on the paper (I've got their BA 767 and the decals in the SM Viscount), and have a good reputation. I doubt that there will be any issue with them.
luke
Hey Chris - Very nice lookin build from down here. Here's a Q for everyone - (and this is not taking anything away from Chris' build) but didn't QANTAS re-designed the Kangaroo, so that the A380 is a modified version (so it can fit in whole on the tail shape) compared to the existing fleet symbol? I remember seeing some Hawkeye Aussies Decals ?? just after to the annoucement maybe mid 2007, and thought if this would be updated in future decals. I wonder if Two-Six has done this or not?? I missed the promotional A380 fly-over of Perth CBD in November so I still haven't seen one in the flesh.
Samurai_Chris
Tony, I simply just used thin 5mm tape, and had a steady hand and eye. Not that difficult really. But takes alot of fidgeting to get it right on.. GCA333, thanks mate.. Havn't used the two six decals as of yet, so will see how we go today. May start on the decalling today or tomorrow.. vc-10.. Let's hope...

You will note that I stated that the build above was an old project that has since been scrapped. I just put pictures of it up for something to look at and compare when my new build gets posted.. Samurai_Chris
Ok, here is where I am at with the new build.. The fuselage is all together. All doors are up, as it will be an in flight display, and the red tail has been painted.. As for the build above.. It will be resurected in some form in the future. But for now it goes in the think box.. I was thinking about doing it in the original red and orange Qantas colours pre 1984 with the winged Kangaroo...
Samurai_Chris
And an update a few hours later.. I am now finished for the day, and will enjoy the rest of my Sunday afternoon.... Chris

After the 1/200 builds, I bet that one seems huge! Take care, and keeping my eyes open. Frank Cheers Frank.. As I built the oiginal one, I had an idea as to the size of it.. So I am not all that daugnted with it.. But yes, she is a beast indeed.. I just ran up stairs and found the original wings that was with that first build and dry fitted them to give everyone a scale of the thing.. Obviously if I chose to fix and use these wings instead of starting from scratch, they have to have different greys used, as Qantas does not use house colours on their wings or even the scratch plate on the rear stabalizer.. Oh, and by the way.. The Two-Six decals are absolutely magnificent.. I can't praise them enough. Well worth the 18 quid... thin, strong, and easy to apply...!!! GCA333
Excellent job Chris! I too am working on an A380, an Emirates one. I might stretch it and make a -900! That is one excellent looking superjumbo, it should look great with your 748!

Well worth the 18 quid... thin, strong, and easy to apply...!!! That's really good to hear. The 767 I'm building is the one we came home from Cayman on (G-BNWR), so that particular plane is quite important! :o Nice work on the A380, she looks magnificent!
