Darren Roberts
The squadron markings on the Almark sheet are too light. They also call for the wrong colors for the TPS paint scheme, which is probably why the markings are too light. The best way to go is to try and get ahold of the Repliscale sheet. They have the correct dark gray stenciling. However, they also made the tail stripes dark gray. They should be medium gray. Superscale had a VF-32 sheet out long ago that had the perfect tail stripe colors. The Almark sheet has separate tail markings in which you need to paint the tail stripes. So to get a correct set of markings, you need either: Repliscale and Almark combined. Repliscale and Superscale combined. Another little tidbit about Gypsy 207 is that is had the original gun vent that was U shaped around the muzzle. The only kit I know of that contains this muzzle is the Hasegawa Wolfpack boxing. Gypsy 207 did have the regular beavertail, though. Sorry if this is too much info and isn't clear. Hopefully you can get something out of it.
sweep295
hasegawa released there 1/72 tomcat with black bunny markings in there SP range awhile ago now but it had gypsy 207 as an alternative . hannets had a few in there specials catagory not so long ago not sure if they have any left though the kit was numbered SP5 and had some dodgy art work on the cover
Brian P: Fightertown Decals
One nice thing about the hasegawa 1/72 Tomcats is that they have the 7 grille early 'U' gun vent!

If I can get my plate cleared a little bit, there might just be a resin grill for those 1/48 scale builders who want one.
Jay Chladek
Now that is weird. I wonder why 207 still had that 7 grill vent when they had the longer beavertail? I thought when the short beaver tail got bobbed, any planes with the 7 grill vents also had them retrofitted to the 2 vent style. I wonder how many other oddball Tomcats there were like that in the fleet.

I've started to notice quite a few Tomcats with the 7 grill vent that went into the late 80's. Another one that I found was a VF-2 Bounty Hunters F-14A from Desert Storm. It has the typical ECM gear under the wing glove and the standard gun vent, but it has the taller TACAN antenna installed. I always thought that the A's still had the shorter antenna at that time and only received the taller one in the following years.

Other oddities: -The reserve squadrons were making use of some interim-beavertail tomcats up into the 1990s -Not all F-14As received the ECM bump upgrade package (others recv'd part of it and not all of it)

D- If memory serves correctly, the TACAN antennae was part of the RHAWS ECM package suite the a/c rec'd when the birds were being updated from block 125 to 150 standards. I think I got the right gun vent from Vp set, see the pic about the color of decal, I think I will deside what to do when I got the almark one, may be I can just paint them myself, the number thing is easy after all.
