  1. Austria cancelled their Typhoons? Well, I always thought the Typhoon was a bit excessive for a nation with a strict neutrality policy and has never fought a war as an independent nation, and I always thought the Gripen would make much more sense since it's a smaller, (presumably) easier plane to support and they've been a Saab customer in the past. Heck, provided that they continue to age well the F-5s should continue to serve them very well for a few years to come. As for Japan, well, once again the F-22 strikes me as excessive, and the Japanese having a stealth plane of the calibre of the
  2. When I first saw that picture, a very odd feeling of "I know that guy from somewhere!" did come over me....
  3. Don't tell me they were seriously thinking about feeding this thing to a missile at one point?!
  4. I have to agree.... ...but... Neither of them have anything on her! :P
  5. What many thought would never happen, these guys show up: http://www.fuelbirds.com/

  7. So are they an aggressor squad now, or what?
  8. Ummm, didn't the Sundowners transistion from F-14s to F-18s? No offense to F-5 fans, but this seems like a major downgrade....
  9. The city of Sumter should be honored, for they have the greatest warplane ever to serve them named after them. All other cities in the US should bow down and bestow wreaths upon the city of Sumter
  10. I'm assuming these were taken yesterday or around that time frame? That looks like the system that passed through here last night
  11. I find that picture hard to believe. I mean, you need at least a Cessna to break the sound barrier! Now just imagine if that Cessna were a Tweet! :)
  12. No, you pretty much understood correctly. How many QT-38s were converted exactly? Also, that's a lot of T-38s stored. How many are still in service and how many built?
  13. I'm assuming that's why they were converted to QT-38s? I always thought, except for crashes and exports, all T-38s ever built are still in USAF service.
  14. Is there a Malcom bubble hood (see today's P-51 articles for an example) for Monogram's P-51B 1/32 kit?
  15. QT-38? Aren't there other aircraft perhaps a bit more suitable for drone conversion?
  16. That first chick was also cute
  17. Me too, Other Other Ray, especially the 580 turboprops. Some of my favorites.
  18. Wow, didn't realize this and this was above my first post too. Makes me glad I got mine when I did!
  19. Yeah, I didn't know they had Convairs still either. What other old stuff they got? Also, while we're at it what happened to those A-6 trainers?
  20. The Tweet will not lower itself to delivery vehicle. It's too much in demand shooting down anything that moves.
  21. while you're at it, replace the nose probe with some stretched sprue (or just stretch the probe itself out) or replace with some thinnish-gauge wire for a more authentic, less wonky look. Also, the wing-fuse joint needs a bit of filling and sanding, but not as bad as some other kits I've messed around with before. Apparently it's a model-to-model basis thing.
  22. Try e-mailing the people at AOPA Pilot or Plane & Pilot Magazine. They've both done articles in the past and if nothing else can get you into contact with some L-14 and L-18 owners.
  23. I remember hearing about a debate concerning the remains of the shuttle Columbia after that incident. Apparently, they recovered enough of the shuttle in good enough condition such that, if they wanted to, they could reasonably rebuild it good enough for static display, and there were already provisions being made for it to become a museum piece before its final flight. I remember reading from a NASA spokesman that some still want to see it preserved because it was, after all, NASA's first (operational) shuttle. Although I get the impression that a lot of that enthusiasm has died down and the
