  1. A-7 Corsair? F-8 Crusader? S-3 Viking? A-4 Skyhawk?
  2. Thanks dude. I did the fuel tanks today and I don't plan on adding many weapons to it (a LANTIRN and ACMI pod, maybe an AIM-9 too) so I should be able to finish by the end of this month.
  3. Probably not for the B. They released a resin F-14B "conversion set" shortly after the F-14D came out so you can backdate their kit: http://store.modelkasten.com/shopdetail/000000003166 Not too impressed with the quality at first glance.
  4. The fuselage and wings have been painted and decals have been applied. Before I applied primer, I sanded off one of the antennas on the spine. For some reason Hobbyboss has two of them here, after checking some references I decided the antenna closest to the GPS dome was the one to sand off. The Modelkasten decals were a mixed bag. They came off the sheet with no problems and went on okay, but the red is more of an orange and they're missing lots of stencils that should have been there. I used the Hobbyboss decals for the anti-slip areas and the formation lights.
  5. The creative canopy bit sounds interesting, I wonder what it's like? I plan on building only one 1/48 F-14, looks like AMK is the way to go.
  6. Nice job! I've always liked the look of the Strike E over the Noir, it looks so much more intimidating with so many weapons visible.
  7. Bump, anyone else want to take part?
  8. Hobbyboss puts the holes for the fuel tanks in the wrong place on the intake. If the default locations are drilled out, the tanks would be too far forward and too much to the center. To get new drilling points, I put a little black paint on the pins of the fuel tank before placing it on the intake, then I drilled it from the outside in. Canopy masked up and ready for priming.
  9. Time for an overdue update, life got in the way. I filled in the gaps in the intake trunking using card and filler. It won't win a place at a contest for sure, but good enough to put in my display case. The intake pieces themselves fit very well onto the fuselage. The exhaust shrouds are another part of the kit that doesn't fit well. Lots of filling and sanding needed here. Other problem areas are the nose and the front/rear fuselage joint but only some light sanding was necessary. The main body is now finished and ready for priming and touching up. Will post some pics later.
  10. The perfect opportunity to recreate the 'Kim Jong Un looking at things' series. Are there any figures of North Korean soldiers carrying notebooks and pens?
  11. I think it's unlikely Tamiya will change its mind about the flaps and slats when it's only a minority who are taking issue with it. Wouldn't this mean coming up with a new set of molds?
  12. Hi guys, today the postman delivered Academy's new tooled M1A2 to me, and when I was examining the pieces I saw some numbers in various places around the upper hull. Admittedly, I don't know too much about the Abrams but are they supposed to be there?
  13. I could be wrong but it doesn't seem like Shigeo-san who did the art for the Zero this time.
  14. There are only so many ways to mold a F-14, I guess. Progress has been very slow.
  15. More importantly, more kits in 1/72 please. :pray:/> In 1/48, how about a A-7, Rafale, or Eurofighter?
  16. This is my biggest worry whenever I sand this area on a kit. I once ruined a Hasegawa F-16 by oversanding the rear fuselage joint, and when I attached the tailplane there was a big honking gap towards the front and rear of the tailplane like a curve.
  17. Looks good! I have the same kit in the stash. How's the join between the upper and lower fuselage?
  18. It's probably a good thing that AMK hasn't yet finalized the marking options for its kit (I hope?). Now that Tamiya has confirmed theirs to be VF-84 and VF-2, AMK can go for other squadrons to differentiate itself.
  19. What's that noise? Oh, it's just the sound of some people having shot themselves in the feet. :P
  20. A small update today. To install the nose gear later in the build (much easier), you need to cut a portion of the main pin. Again, don't cut off too much because you'll want to have something to guide the alignment later. You'll also need to drill a hole in the nose gear bay. After that you can install the nose gear whenever you like in the build. Next comes the part which a lot of people dread about modern jet kits, the intakes. The fit of the intakes are quite bad in the front part, and you can see an ugly seam right in the middle of the intake. Not sure how I'll fix that one, but I
  21. Thanks, I'll keep that in mind when test fitting the seats later.
  22. Nah, I don't have any spare pilot figures that I don't plan to use so I'm just going to leave it as it is.
  23. I did the cockpit with a mixture of painting and decals. Hobbyboss's decals for the main instrument panels are useless because they're completely different in shape to the plastic parts. I carefully cut off what I could use from the decals and painted the rest. The other parts as well as the seats will be installed right before the canopy goes on, to prevent them from dropping out during the build. The cockpit has been set in place between the nose halves. I found that the spine didn't fit very well. Modifying the wings so they can be installed after painting. I cut off a bit of the circ
  24. But why is it YOUR problem? Are you also losing money with each lost sale?
