  1. Your TB1 has brought a smile to my face. :D It is impressive when one considers the austere nature of the materials used.
  2. Even worse still. I've heard plenty of stories where a families would-be mouser thought it would be better to keep the mouse alive and release it's new rodent friend elsewhere in the house to run amok.
  3. The fuselage is nearly painted. It is very pleasing for me to see the project final get to this point. To accomplish demarcating the boundary of each color I used long strands of poster tack as shown below. Unfortunately. Lifting off the strands reveal raised paint that formed under small gap of the tack. I will need to sand and polish these raised edges away before proceeding. Touch ups will need to be done where to correct painting mistakes. I have painting the drop tanks, nose, tail cone, canopy frame and tail planes to look forward to prior to gloss coating and decal laying.
  4. I have a Hasegawa 1/32 Fieschler Storch to contribute to this fine endeavor.
  5. This is all the 1947 National Security Act has to say with regard to what the Air Force was tasked by the Congress with doing. It actually makes no specification regarding roles or missions the Air Force was required to perform; CAS or anything else for that matter. I would assume the the framers of the law assumed correctly that CAS would be one aspect of the newly formed branches overall mission for providing air power for the nation; which required the service to be able to provide a wide range of capabilities. I also find it somewhat odd the thinking of Air Force detractors that somehow t
  6. Human bodies and light structures pretty much respond the same way regardless if being struck by a 20mm cannon shell versus 30mm cannon shell. To the insurgents that were on the receiving end of the attacks recorded in the vids Trigger posted; would it matter to them that the incoming fire did not have the same amount of KE dispersion as that which would have come from an A-10? All that they know at that very moment (assuming there are survivors) is that allied airpower is dealing them dealing them death from above and they might be next. Simply put you don't need a GAU-8 to perform CAS; it's
  7. So the fact that the Air Force operates over 1700 aircraft that can perform CAS; a mission our Airmen train for and take seriously as evident by the services effective deliver of such for over 30 years, the Air Force is somehow abandoning the mission altogether by deciding it must retire the A-10 earlier than planned due to politically induced budgetary concerns it can't control? That with the removal of the A-10 somehow everyone else; from the AC-130 guys, through the entirety of the Global Strike Command bomber forces, to the Viper and Strike Eagle drivers, are inadequate to provide effectiv
  8. I don't know. Perchlorate salts can't be very appetizing.
  9. I believe it is called embossed sheet metal or just non-slip plate. HLJ did have a metal plating that would replicate the appearance of that material. Sadly they don't have it in stock at present time. Plastistruct does sell sheets that replicate diamond and tread type embossed metal (see item numbers ps-148 through ps-159). ... Edit. Nuts I wasn't expecting others to beat me to the posting so quickly.
  10. Finally painting has commenced. I started painting the underside Gull Gray and masked the boundaries off prior to moving onto the next color. Presently the Sand paint layer is being applied to the model. It looks crude for the moment. At least another layer or two is needed. After that I will be masking the boundaries off for the lighter shade of green.
  11. With priming done the pilot/ ejection seat sub-assembly was permanently installed within the cockpit tub. I spent an hour last night masking the canopy. Even with the very shallow frame details laying tape along those raised edges was accomplished. I burnished each subsequent layer of tape to ensure bleed-proof mask. I used Testors clear part cement to bond the canopy to the fuselage. It boasts a faster dry time compared to the canopy cement I was previously using. During the process I accidentally dropped the model to the floor. My reaction was :jaw-dropping:/> . NO!!! Fortunately
  12. Thunderstreak box art depicts the moment it's pilot realized what a bad idea it was to fly into a thunderstorm. And the Zero pilot! Stop breaking the fourth wall looking at me and look at the two planes your about to collide with!
  13. For those who might be still following I had to put the project on hold. It had nothing to do with the model itself but things at home that had to be dealt with that left little time to work on models up till a few weeks ago. After the Komet build the f-1 came out of storage and work has resumed. (Unfortunately no photos at this time) The nose needed to be replaced due to cat damage. The fuselage has been completely primed and I hope to set to work adding the pilot/ seat assembly and closing up the cockpit before the weekend closes out. Masking the canopy will be tricky as there seems to be n
  14. Oddly the kit itself seems to be unsure what it wants to be. It upper fuselage tries to resemble the production Raptors while the bottom looks like the YF-22. Very strange. I'd buy one just to see what the finished model would ultimately look like. :lol:/>
  15. ....On alert for the angry cat GROWLING in the corner. They all WATCHED as one poor soul armed with nothing but a BROOM attempted to evict the malcontent feline. None were AMUSED.
  16. Outstanding Lightning you have there.
  17. A basic kit but looks amazing when painted and decals applied. The kit had two options for either the typical green/gray scheme or the red scheme applied to the Komet used by Wolfgang Spate (apparently he hated the color). Painting the model red seemed an interesting departure from the ordinary and it was only a single bottle of paint I needed to buy as opposed to the three or four different colors called out for the more conventional scheme. I skipped the carry trailer and built the model plane. The 25+ parts came together with little fuss. I had to deviate from the instructions and install
  18. I ordered some acrylic rods from a company called TAP Plastic five years or so ago. It may be worth giving them a look. http://www.tapplastics.com/
  19. I've not had any problems with Photobucket. However I don't avail myself of the sites organizational tools so I can't speak to the problems others may be having with those features.
  20. F-35's did well during their participation in Green Flag. http://defensetech.org/2015/07/14/f-35a-flies-close-air-support-missions-in-first-green-flag/
  21. You have models, model building facilities, a beverage and sandwich. Now all you need is a coffee maker installed in that room and you'd be golden.
  22. I've applied the initial coat of primer on the model. I sanded the model and washed the residue away. I'm letting the cleaned model dry for at least a day before applying the next coat. In the meantime I set to work on attaching the wing tanks and rocket pods to their pylons. I figured building a jig would help me towards that end. I was going to glue pieces of balsa wood together but why waste time and wood on a jig that would only be useful for this particular model and then only for a few uses? Thus I simply taped pieces of balsa together to make my jig. In this example the jigs functi
